Event Description

**From SCOA and Smart USAInsider we have 17 attending"Smarts"**

Here is the plan for the first Iowa and surrounding areas rally.

It is scheduled for Sunday Sept 28th. Meet at 11am.

What we can plan to do is start in Ames, IA (~30 miles north of Des Moines on 35) We will meet at Brookside Park for awhile to meet n' greet. Below is a link for a map of the park's location:

Brookside Park, United States - Google Maps

After awhile we can hop in out Smarts and drive down to Ankeny, IA. It is around 20 miles to Ankeny from Ames.

Once we arrive in Ankeny, we can have lunch at the Sonic Drive in Restaurant. There we can eat and show off our smarts to others.

After lunch, we will begin our final leg of the Rally. A cruise down 35 just a bit more to the Des Moines State Capital. There is where we can get all of our Smarts together for a BIG group photo!

Tentative timetable:
Arrive in Ames: 11am
Leave Ames: 11:30am
Arrive in Ankeny: 12:10pm
Eat Lunch/Leave for DSM: 1:30pm
Arrive at the Capital: 1:50pm

In addition, there will be tons of freebies donated by many different organizations as well a prize worth $500 will be given out to one lucky winner!

That's the idea for the rally, please RSVP here if you would like to attend so I can get a count to notify Sonic before we arrive. Also if you have any questions/ideas to add on to this feel free to reply with them!

Beadlady, of course you can attend. I will let you sit and check out my Smart (as the other attendees will too) Please come to the rally. You can either lead the pack as we drive or be the caboose. :)

Well not to speak for Jeff but back in March Smart's were not NEARLY as popular and as in high demand as they are now. Back in the day (march and before) you could probably get your smart in 2-5 months!

Sorry. That date will not work. Also, we are still waiting for our smart fortwo Passion.
Question for Jefferios: How did you enter your reservation in March of 2008 and have a smart by May 2008? Orphan program? :-)

Regards

I have informed; KCCI, WHO, ABC5, The Des Moines Register, and The Iowa State Daily about our rally. Hopefully they can get a story on us!

P.S. Make sure your smarts are all cleaned and waxed up for the rally! :)

John, you mention Saturday in Ames... you DO realize it's on Sunday, right? (if I have jumped into a conversation that is not about the rally, please disregard, okay?) I am really looking forward to meeting everyone. Jeff, have you had any luck in getting media interested? Andrea @ La Vista says they can't be there. but she's trying to figure out something for what they can send along. (not sure what that meant!) Anyway, you're doing a great job keeping the reminders going!

Yea, so far looking 10 days out the weather looks spectacular. Anything further out is just a guess as this point. But hopefully we will see warm temps and no rain.

Jeff, assuming we don't get another hurricane or I'm not lured into debauchery by some of my college haunts in Illinois, I'll see you Saturday afternoon in Ames. Looking forward to putting some faces with user id's, not to mention trying some of the local cuisine - corn, I guess?
