I am pleased to announce that the city of Jacksonville has once again accepted First Coast Smarties into their Veteran's Day Parade. I just got home from South Africa today and amongst the 250 emails that I had received while gone, was one from them yesterday, telling me that we were accepted. I am pasting the letter in this letter. I would like for all of us to meet at Walmart on Normandy at 9:15AM so that we can cruise over as a club. As the letter states, they want it to start on time. We can't have people showing up at the parade site at various hours. The reason for this is because it gets very congested after a while. So, please comply with this request and meet at Walmart on Normandy at 9:15AM. Thank you.
Thank you for your interest in the City of Jacksonville Veterans Day Parade on Monday, November 12, 2012. We are pleased to have you join us in this year’s parade. Your parade line-up number is _E5. Attached, you will find a map of the lineup and parade route. You will line up in the lot across from the convention Center – (see attached map). There will be Parade Marshal who will direct you. We ask you arrive in plenty of time to get in line prior to all the large pieces of equipment and vehicles arriving – it gets very congested in the lineup area. The staging area for the parade encompasses the Prime Osborn Convention Center parking lot and Water Street from Jefferson Street to Lee Street in front of the Federal Reserve Building. Please arrive by 9:45 a.m. to be ready by 10:15 a.m. It is imperative the parade starts on time. We will depart from the staging area at 10:15 a.m. and walk to the corner of Water and Pearl streets. We will wait until after the National Anthem is performed and the parade will officially begin at 11:01 a.m. For the safety of your group, please be aware the parade route goes around the cobblestone roundabout at the intersection of Water Street and Laura Street. Due to the cobblestones, the surface is very uneven, so please pay careful attention when you walk through this area. The area is also narrower than in previous years which may inhibit your ability to maneuver. We advise you to wear comfortable shoes if you are walking. PLEASE NOTE: This is a one-way procession. Parking for the parade participant vehicles not driving in the parade, mustpark in Lot E at EverBank Field. A shuttle will pick you up from Lot E and drop you off at the staging area. De-staging will take place in Lot E.
