Last year Vicky and I went to the Turkey Run to see what it was all about. It is truly the largest car show in the world as they advertise. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. As we walked around looking at the cars and talking to vendors, we noticed one thing...there were no Smart cars anywhere in sight.
Why come? This is actually a 3 day event March 30 - April 1. All participants can come and go as they please. So, if you want to come on Friday and stay the entire time, the $25 registration fee covers you, your car and 4 other people (not their cars). If you want to stay only one of those days, that is fine also. Now, here is the biggest reason to participate: For the first time since they have been having the Turkey Run in Daytona, your registration fee will give you the opportunity to take a pace lap around the Daytona International Speedway. I have emailed them to find out the exact day they will be doing the pace lap. On Twitter it says that it will be done on Sunday.
What are we doing? I have already registered. Please register your car at this website http://www.turkeyrun.com/Turkey_Run_Home.html There, you will have to tell them your name, address and type of car. They will ask you what club you are affiliated with. Please tell them First Coast Smarties. The reason for this is because they will later open up parking for clubs and only clubs that have preregistered with be allowed to park together. Any other parking is, first come first served.
I will be leaving Jacksonville on Saturday from the Smart Center at 6:30AM. From there anyone from Jacksonville that has also registered will head to Daytona. The gates open at 8 and close at 4PM. You can leave and come back, or leave your car. I will be there Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, they will have all kinds of night activities. From what I understand, there will also be a cruise along A1A. Please look at site for more information. As I said, the cruise around the track, according to their twitter account is Sunday. For those of you that are only interested in doing that, should register and show up on the day of the pace lap. As soon as I get a response from my email, I will let you know more about the pace lap.
Come on out and enjoy yourself. If you can do Saturday and Sunday, I would appreciate the company.
