the car is PLASTIC. might get "Stained" though
I know this is an old thread... but I don't think the 2009 red is painted... my red panels are red all the way thru.. maybe the 2008 (tomato red) was paint..
anyone know for sure???

Three of the six colors smart offers are indeed painted. They are the red, blue and silver smarts. The panels themselves are black and are then painted and clearcoated. The yellow, white and black smarts are simply clearcoated only as the panels are the same color all the way through (color through panels). So if a painted smart is deeply scratched then the black will show through. Touch up paint is available for these panels and both colors of tridion cells. If a color through panel is scratched, then all you will see is the same color in the scratch. It is recommended to clear coat the scratch after it is "repaired" or smoothed out. If one buys the tridion touch up paint kit it will include the smart clear coat bottle as well. So if a smart is egged or a bird uses it for target practice, do indeed clean it up because it will damage the paint and clear coat.
From what i've heard, the panels that are actually colored are the standard colors (the 2009 current black, white, and red). The ones that are painted are the metallic colors.... since it'd be kind of hard to make molded plastic look metallic.
"if the car got egged"

Is that a problem where you live ?

I didn't think anyone threw eggs anymore. We did when we were kids, but only on Holloween. Didn't think kids nowadays threw eggs.
