Longer warranty. It's still a car, so have some confidence in the workmanship and engineering and get a 100K mile warranty on it. I was shocked when I found out the warranty was so short.
According to the latest newsletter (and the blog post from Dave Schembri to the right), the 2009 smart will have DRLs available as a $50 option. Sure would be nice if Daimler would make this a dealer installable option.
I've installed the Area 451 Cruise Control so that itch is scratched. It's sweet. Daimler should license this product so it could be a factory option.
Remaining on my list are the turbo option and a longer warranty. These are too late for me but I hope not for future buyers.
A toy?
It is economical and perfect for commuters. I went form 20 MPG to 40MPG and the vehicle pays for itself. I would love for the car to be cheaper but certainly not an increase in cost.
I would love Cruise Control too but have lived without it and still get where I go.
I would love to not have to worry about a cargo limit but have managed just fine.
I hate to use the term but the Smart is what it is and I think going back to the Fortwo was done for a reason.
They want to keep the cost down as much as possible.
When you add more to the warranty or add more options it makes a difference.
I do not need a longer warranty if the vehicle is dependable and long lasting.
I drive about 3,000 miles a month and am very comfortable with the warranty. Time will tell if I did the right thing. I have had alot of people say it makes sense to them.
One year wait is worth it. Supply and Demand. I do think that they will increase output. But if it effects the quality in a bad way than I would rather wait.
I think the bigger problem is we expect to get what we want, when we want it and do not like to wait on anything.
Regarding cruise control, I have had my orphan Smart for a week now. I asked about the cruise control and it is my understanding that if you add cruise to your car, you will violate the smart warranty and they won't service your car anymore.
