Front end movements!
Finally we have a distributor in Puerto Rico, USA. I just purchased a Passion Coupe after waiting over a year. I enjoy driving it in this beautifull island(85 degrees all the time). But at a little over 50 mph the front end starts to sway a little to the sides having me to provide extra effort to keep it in the center of the lane. Would any of you have had this situation and can help me solve it. It does not have power stirring installed since I think it is not needed> PLs advice

Thks! a lot Kevin. I will try the tire presure. I did adjusted them yesterday but may be my gauge is not good. Let's see how it does with the other gauge! Thks.

Ramon, Disfruta ese carrito en la Isla del Encanto... As far as your issue with the front, do as the cocolos do, get rid of the front tires and rims and get yourself a pair of OEM rears. that will fix 99% of the issue. If you are willing to change the look of the car.. and what self respecting cocolo would not! get some aftermarket rims and put some 195s all around on 15s. DONT do the 16s or 17s... they look great but papi you know that the Island has potholes that lok like sink holes or craters.... Man I am jealous of you in the smart going up to el Yunque!

Too bad i seriously doubt anyone would have a set of rears from a Brabus they'd be willing to let go of for dirt cheap. haha

I am starting to see why some are going to the 195 tire size. You can only find the stock tires at a dealer or mail order. Has anyone has any problems going to the larger tires? I like the look of the stock rims. So I will most likely buy 2 rears for the front. That or buy a entire sets with tires from TireRack. Will most likely wait for the warranty to run out.

Yes, one of the advantages of moving up to the 195/50 size is a greater selection available at more locations. I have been running 195/50 Yokohama all-season tires on Rial 15x6 rims that I bought from Tire Rack with TPMS. It was a simple take off the stock set and put on the new set that are already mounted, balanced, and have the TPMS installed. I was able to sell the stock set for a decent amount, so a whole new set of tires, rims, and TPMS cost me a little over $300.
And, the new setup makes a big difference in handling, looks meatier, and also offers some improvement in ride quality. It's a win-win.

most sell off their two rears as a set to those wanting to keep the OEM look but also better handling.. and the skinnys up front make great single spares so they usually get sold off individually. Every one gets what they want and you dont have to shell out a ton to improve your ride!

Sato: I know he got a passion coupe.... i was talking about me for Brabus rear's. larger front tires is something i've been somewhat interested in for a little while now.... but then i'd wind up having the same issue i had before with the brake dust, which i fixed with a set of Kleen Wheels. Then again.... the bigger wheels would have a lot more of a gap around the edge of the brake discs and rotors, so it might have a higher chance of moving the brake dust away from the outside of the wheel.... i dunno.

Ryan did you try waxing the rims with a good poly wax? While it wont do away with dirty wheels, it will make it SO much easier to just rinse away.

No, i haven't tried a wax... but the Kleen Wheels work fantastic, too. Usually a nice rinse and they're shiny. If it's been quite a while, some of the grime might still be there, so i use a wheel cleaning spray, and that takes it right off. Completely different story before the Kleen Wheels. Not to mention a lesser chance of a permanently marred finish.

Sato! Muchas gracias! Could not answer before because I was visiting the Beach at El combate in Cabo Rojo(the western part of the Island). I took the smart with me and enjoyed it a lot. All eyes were on the car(Brunno). On the front end problem I revised the tires pressue and it improved a lot. As soon as I am done with the warranty I will change the tires and rims.You know how hilly is this island although we have extensive excellent roads there are other areas that need some improvement. Thks a Lot!!!
