A 5 year celebration would probably be left up to the smart Centers.  It would be a great opportunity for them to invite all of their customers back and hopefully a few will want to trade-in their 08 & 09's for a new 13, that will probably be with us for awhile, maybe even as late as 2015.  Penske smart, West Covina, held a 10 year anniversary party for smart in Sept. of 2008.  It was a fun event followed by a tour through the local mountains.  We even had a police escort to the freeway on ramp.  We all received a 10 yr. anniversary t-shirt to commemorate the occasion.

A great opportunity.....

Yes! Will anyone decide to take advantage of it? That's another question entirely.

Hello Arvind, The release for the electric drive is just around the corner as you know. The smart Brand Manager at your local center who you've been working with would be the best point of contact for updates related to the vehicle availability, options and pricing. The vehicle is scheduled to be released in select states on May 1st. Yours is one of them. We know cars are on the ground and en route to our smart centers. So, while May 1st is the official date, some cars may take a little longer to arrive. We recommend staying in touch with the Brand Manager over the next few weeks.

Can someone from Smart answer these questions:

When will my local dealer (Beshoff Motors, San Jose) get his first shipment of ED3s? May 1? May 15? May 31?

He says he is expecting 10 ED3s. When will he know the options on each of those 10 units?

Has the option pricing for ED3 been announced?

quinn, thank you. i posted this info elsewhere on this site:

This article just came out:

http://insideevs.com/smart-to-offer-battery-rental-in-the-us/

Summary: lease price $19,500 plus battery rental of $75/month for 10 year lease for minimum 80% capacity. All figures are estimates based on European prices.

Went from Hudson to Rochester last week. 25,500 miles since purchased in the Twin Cities and 2 years later brought to a Smart dealer. Great service! While I waited about 6 smarts were being downloaded from a semi and someone was orienting sales people about the new smarts. I had a leaky seal and a crazed roof, both out of warranty. I had a 20,000 miles service for less than $100 and got a call today that the parts were ordered and all under warranty. They said they will provide a free loaner because I'll have to leave it to have the roof replaced. From Tim, service manager to the mechanics, this is a class smart dealership! Thanks!

Great to hear about good experiences in Minnesota, for a change!  Make sure you tell the dealership about the 2013 smart Car National Convention and Car Show, July 10 - 14 in Westminster, Colorado.  Https://smartcarnatls.com .  The more the merrier!

ED3s are now available in Kichener, Ontario, and will soon be available in the US. It is time for a forum specifically focused on the ED3.

Please start a new forum specifically about the new Smart Electric Drive. I don't own a gasoline Smart and likely never will. However, I am interested in the ED3 as my 2nd car for commuting and local errands. A little frustrated about the lack of information currently available in the media and on the net.
