I did some research and plan to keep this updated. I took the time to do a side by side comparison on the warranties of all the 'micro cars':

Micro Car Warranty Comparison Chart

I am under the impression that SmartUSA is working on improving the warranty, but nothing official has been announced as of the post date.

Brad, very nice work. Your google Doc comes right up.  I assume that the row that says "Scheduled Maintenance", means "FREE Scheduled Maintenance". To make sure folks get a look, I've clipped it below.

I think some would say the MINI is not a micro car (hence the name MINI) but most U.S. buyers see all "small" cars as the same so smart might as well face up to that.  The Scion IQ and the Fiat 500 are definitely smart competitors (even though the IQ isn't on sale here yet) and as your chart shows the 500 throws in 3 years of free routine maintenance.  smart USA/DVI has already seen this suggestion;  it would go nicely with the 3/36 warranty  extension on the 2012 models.

Brad, I was looking at your 'My Page' and went to your smart web site Very nice. I clicked on the TysingerSmart link and the following popped out! Very cool.

The 'official' smartcenterHampton site is the 'generic' clone, Tysinger's site had the $100.00 offer and is very nice. Amazing!

Folks, go take a look at Brad's site.

Looks good. Header is more accurate. This concept is good. Perhaps some of us can do some charts like this for other issues.

I found some more data and I put it in the chart...

Minor quibbles: Correct spelling of "Daimler" and show smart as offering extended third party service contracts, not factory warranties.  Probably the same for the others as well.

Thanks for putting it together!

My Dad used to say "Trifles make perfection, but, Perfection is no Trifle!" lol I think he stole that from Michelangelo. Well, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

Brad - since you started this discussion, you can DELETE the non-relevant comments so we don't have to wade through them to get here.

You've done a lot of work on the chart. Makes an owner of the original 2008 boil to see how little smart supports our cars.

THANKS!

73, Jan

I have removed everything I could Jan...   And it was specifically Smart USA and Penske that failed to support us, but they got away with it because the Smart was the pioneer in the US market.  Now I think that it is under the Mercedes brand they will make some adjustments...  (I hope)
