Linked you will find an article from Automobile magazine about an agreement between Diamler and Renault-Nissan to develop the next generation of smart cars.  It appears the new Fortwo would be destined for the USA, but the rest of the planet would also get a new Forfour and a Formore van.

The questions that come to my mind are:

Will smart servicing become available through Nissan dealers?

Does this mean the factory in Hambach, France will become a joint venture facility with Renault-Nissan, or will production be relocated elsewhere? One of the things that attracted me to Smart was the ISO14001 environmental compliance of the factory in France. If this does not continue, I would have to think twice about a new Smart Fortwo in the future?
