SMART ALARM FAILURE - WHO'S HAVING THIS TROUBLE? FINAL REPAIR WILL COST ABOUT $600.00

My wife and I are both Smart owners.  Mine is a 2008 Passion and her's is a 2009 Passion.  Her's started having the alarm go off shortly after locking the car.  It would go off and reset itself and then do it again.  The Smart Center Buckhead made some "adjustments" to it and it cleared the problem.  Not more that a week later my 2008 started doing the same thing.  The Smart Center also adjusted something and it helped for about a day.  So TWO PARTS WERE ORDERED FOR A TOTAL OF $509.00 (a flasher module and a sensor) and I just had them installed - hopefully this will cure the problem.  I think this is a generic problem with the Smart - so let's help eachother out and try to get Smart to own up to this and some of their other "QUIRKS!"  Please post if you too have had this problem!

I assume you are talking about the factory alarm?  I have a factory alarm on my 08 Passion and so far it is working as it should.  Is there a possiblilty that both of your vehicles are subject to some type of high frequency vibrations or someone driving by with a loud exhaust or their sound system cranked way up?  Please keep us informed as to how this concern was resolved.

It would help to know the exact parts replaced.  There was a problem on some of the early cars with one of the alarm sensors being installed upside down.  Don't think this is a widespread issue but it's been mentioned before:

Yes it is the factory installed alarm system.  This has happened in my garage, setting in from of the Smart Center, in my driveway, at my office in a covered parking garage - everywhere.

I have noticed mine going off. but its only seems to have been after locking the car after driving somewhere with a passenger.  I think its just that my door was not fully closed when it was locked.  It happens normally within about 30 seconds of locking the doors. I have never had it happen after driving to work and back by myself.

Have a 2008 Passion as well with same problem. Fixed under warranty and probelm returned after warranty. Cherry Hill (NJ) Smart wanted to charge for replacing alarm moduale again. So I don't lock my car anymore.

Occassionally, if I hit the lock button when the key is in my pocket, I need to start the car  up and then shut it after a minute to reset the computer.
