I agree. I was also surprised to read about the state of the brand in 2010. I am thankful we're still here.

So, no manual trans fortwo for the US (and I assume Canada) and no mention of the Brabus.  I'm hoping Dr. Winkler at least rethinks the Brabus and the forfour, but not holding my breath for either one.

We will be getting a 5spd manual and a 6spd DCT.

OK, thanks - that will make some (few) people very happy.

That's the best article I've read about the new smart car so far.

Yeah well it's a continuation of another near-death experience in 2005.  The world does need smart.

This 2015 fortwo looks like a Scion iQ. I have a 2009 cabrio. It will probably be my one and only. If they now have a manual transmission and are not going to offer it in the US, then I think Dr. Winkler does not understand the US market. A fortwo would be a lot more fun to drive with a 5- or 6-speed manual. Maybe I'll finally get myself the Mazda 3 with a manual trans. I test drove one many years ago and the thing shifted as smotth as butter.

Sorry, but what is a DCT?

The 6 speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) and the 5 speed are both manual transmissions.  One has a clutch pedal, one doesn't.  My bet is the non-clutch pedal DCT, even at a premium, will be the big seller, since so many drivers in the US can't drive a clutch pedal manual.

As far as the iQ resemblance, not so much IMHO.  Which is a good thing, since Toyota announced today the iQ will be dropped in the US shortly.

The 6 speed DCT will offer better performance than the 5 spd manual.

It certainly should - don't think it's going to be an inexpensive option.

When can I place a factory order for a 453 CABRIO? I would like to take delivery of THE FIRST ONE in the US?

Hi Wallace! We don't have an approximate date for sales distribution just yet. The car will be premiering at the NY Auto Show in April and sales should follow soon after.
