smart tops 50 thousand total sales in the US

M-B USA announced today they sold 710 smarts in December; this brings total sales since January 2008 to 50,352 cars.

50,000+ for such a niche vehicle like our Smart cars is really something. I think we ought to break out the champagne and celebrate......if there's any left over from New Years, that is. :-)

I agree! Some folks feel the smart should be selling like hotcakes (or Corollas) but to do that the smart would (IMHO) have to lose its uniqueness and become just another bland hatchback. No thanks!

When it becomes widely known that the Smart is designed and sold by Mercedes, has the lowest five year cost of ownership of all cars, and the best real world gas mileage of any non-hybrid car, even Consumers Reports will take a fresh look at evaluating the Smart...Of course, $5 a gallon gas will help sales ...
