Has anyone out there purchased a spare tire for their Smart?  A spare just to be used in emergencies?

I have a long daily commute and am petrifed of blowing a tire and then having to be towed to a local shop to get a repair before I can be back on my way.

If you have purchased a spare (baby donut tire) where did you get it and what was the size?

Is there a good place to store it in the car?

Any help would be truly appreciated?

I bought a full sized spare and wheel from www.tirerack.com. I keep it behind the passenger seat. You might also check other sites as some folks are changing the size of their front tires/wheel and you might be able to pick one up inexpensively.
does your spare work for all wheels?...if so what size should i be looking for?

Thanks

Most people use a front tire/wheel assembly for a spare. It will fit on the rear and can be used temporily. It can be stored behind either the driver or passenger seat depending upon seat adjustment. You can acquire a tire bag from the bag lady or go to your trailer supply store and buy a spare tire cover. You have your choice of colors. Go to www.smartcarofamerica.com and do a search for spare tire options. You can also check out e-bay as there are usually front/tire wheel assemblies for sale there as well as through some of the popular vendors listed on SCOA.
Robert is correct. I bought a front wheel and tire from tire rack. When you go on the site and enter the car make and model information, it will take you to the available tire/wheel combinations. The front tire/wheel is the smaller size. It will work on the back wheels, as well, in an emergency. I bought tire covers from TireRack. Good luck!

Hello Ryan,

We have many, many owners that choose to purchase a front (OEM/Genuine) wheel and tire set from us and use it as a spare. We have these in stock and at a price that is hard to beat.

In case you may have any questions feel free to give our shop a call at 562-961-6800 (open 10-6 Pacific M-F and 10-4 on Saturdays).

If you want more information on the product here is the direct product link:

Thank you
Bought one from Smart Madness a while back. It gives me peace of mind when out of town on the hiway. I also take a 15mm socket along for the ride as well at the jack out of my Toyota. If my wife is not with me I put it behind the passenger seat but it also lays down nicely in the back storage area. Dan - Wichita
There are many different opinions on this, and I hear that the present system is OK, but I'm a bit old fashioned. I prefer a solid spare for peace of mind. I ordered mine from the Tire Rack. Should be here in a few days. I already have a complete tool kit and jack in the tailgate.
This has been the source of much discussion over at ClubSmartCar.ca -- I can't find the thread right now, but the wizards over there have sourced three-inch wide rims for the old 450 that sit behind even the driver's seat pushed all the way back.

You all appear to be talking about the 451. I'm curious if anyone has sourced a jack for the 451 and figured out where to place it to raise the car safely. Pics and links appreciated.
I just received my wheel & tire. Had it mounted & balanced.

There are jacking spots on the 451. The fronts are about 10" behind the front wheels, and the rears are about the same distance ahead of the rear wheels. A round area about 5" in diameter with a plastic ridge down the center. A Toyota scissor jack fits nicely, and has the slot to fit the plastic ridge. Mine fits nicely in the tailgate with my tools.

My spare actually fits a bit loosly behind the seat, and wants to flop back. I'll figure something out.

i have 3 pure wheels & tires with TPMS for sale if anyone is interested, they are in very good condition with 20,000 miles on them.
I have two Passion front wheels with tires for sale if anybody is interested. They have around 5000 miles worth of wear on them, but look pretty much brand new.

If anybody is interested, make a reasonable offer.

Thanks!
How much for a front rim and tire .... Cincinnati, OH
