My Passion coupe has about 40,000 miles on it now. Our weather in NC has been consistently over 95 since mid May, and my gas mileage has dropped from a steady 40-41 mpg for my regular driving to around 36mpg. I realize the air conditioning has an effect, but it has never been this severe. I have clean oil, and a clean air filter. Has anyone else noticed abnormally bad mileage in very hot weather? Thanks.

A bigger car in phoenix is less effected by air conditioner use, but then you only get 18 mpg...
i get my best gas mileage when it's 85-90F, i don't use my AC, when the temps drop below 65F my mileage drops a little, and i'm lucky to maintain 40MPG below 20F, snow knocks a few MPGs off too.
Mine is just the opposite. Houston is always hot in the summer, so I don't get too much cold weather.

I'm steadly getting better. Started with 38mpg 6 months ago, and my last fill-up showed me 47mpg. (The AC runs most of the time.)

I try to keep it at 60mph on the freeways, and I don't beat it.
Robert,... Quit Stressing (I have over 10,000 on mine, and NEVER checked the MPG yet...!!! It will make you live longer not checking it)
~If your getting 36 MPG be Happy... If you should get Higher from time to time ~ Be Extra Happy...<:-)) Oh... when somebody asks how many miles you get to a USA gallon... Add 10 miles to the gallon of what ever getting, and tell them that number, because they ALWAYS add 10 to Their's...!!! Fair is Fair in the Gas-Milage-Wars... When your car wants some Go Juice, put some in, and go enjoy Driving your car (Drive-It-Like_You-Stole-It)... Besides that, if you REALLY cared about saving Fuel, you'd be Riding a Bike...<:-))

We had some 100 degree plus days in KC this summer, and my gas mileage dropped about 4-5 MPG. It went back up to normal when the temps went back down. I blamed it on running the AC and having the fan on 3 or 4. As a side, I keep track of my total mileage, and am averaging 42.3 MPG thru the first 14,000 miles.
I don't bother with the MPG games. I have a book in the glove box with all my MPG records and show it if necessary. Then I ask "Where are your records?" Oddly enough, they can't produce anything. I then reply with "cough - cough - bulls**t - cough.
