Just the obvious for now.   Winter brings constant freeze/thawing of ice in the streets.  This creates pot holes which are not at all kind to suspension parts on cars as small as our Smart cars.  Avoid pot holes at every opportunity to avoid non-warranty repair bills.  Good luck!

Dedicated winter tires (not M&S) really help.

Keep the speed down - the ESP can't overcome the laws of physics.

+1 on avoiding potholes!

The heated outside mirrors only come on when the rear defroster is on (2009 on.)

The car warms up much faster if you just get in and drive; letting it sit and idle takes longer and wastes gas.

Might want to wipe a very light coat of silicone grease on the door weather stripping to avoid having your doors freeze shut.

If you get bogged down in the snow, the Traction Control will not let you spin the tires to rock the car out.  There's a procedure to turn it off (Google it) but don't forget to reset it once the car is unstuck.

Last, move to Florida if you can.

Just saw this John!

That's exactly what I did back in 1979! When I got here, the St. Pete Times had DC snowed in. And I was walking the Beach on the Gulf.  Now I 'visit the snow'.
