Uhm, CenTex still up and running? Is this still even a club? I haven't heard of anything going on, I don't know who to contact if anything is going on, I don't want to let this group fizzle out, is there anything I can do to help keep this thing going? Any ideas, anyone still care anymore???

Today at Sonic, there were only 4 cars, but we hashed out some good ideas. Going to put down some of the ideas and hopefully, those that read this can post if they like the ideas or not.

1. All clubs need organizers, so Michael, Myself and hopefully Janet will be in the lead for doing things. I still need to talk with Janet unless she chimes in on this forum.

2. We plan on getting together with RR smart Center for some support on where we want to go with the Club. Maybe get a little more support on doing some events.

3. Tuesdays are rough for some and Saturdays are rough for some. So one idea was we do a Tues and Sat Meet each month to accomodate both walks of life.

4 Another idea that was brought up was "SONIC SATURDAY". This is where we pick a different location around the central Texas area, or even a few of them. Then between 2 - 4pm, if you live in that area, and want to show up and chat with ANY smarties that show, you can. Just so that ppl can meet other ppl that have the same taste in this little car.

Hope those that read this will be interested in the ideas. There were only about 7 ppl there talking about this. So this is what we came up with. We are moving forward and if you want to join in for some fun. Everyone is most welcome to join in.

Sonic is still on. Also, if you live in the Austin area, have smart or going to get a smart, or just want to know where we are hangin out, join the Central Texas Smart Club group.

Look at the Events for details on where we are going to be today.

Hi, we'll be there tomorrow for the Sonic drive. With four kids it's hard to come out and play sometimes. We started with 25 cars at our first CenTex meet and drive but instantly went down to 8 for our next event (winery tour). It's just a matter of finding people who want to come out and when and where they can do it. More easily said then done.

I went and scheduled the event planner on this site for all of you. You can RSVP or Not. Helps to know who might show up. Says it is going to be sunny on Saturday. But even if it is raining, we have cover for us to sit and talk.

Ok, I am going going to say, I did a lot of preplanning. I put it out there 3 weeks prior for one. yes, D and Bs is not the best spot to have it. But, it was NOT crowded at all. No one in the place. Second, I was trying to get ppl to come so we can start getting ppl interested.. Third, I post a lot of stuff on SCOA due to I due like their forums better, but I do like the way this email list works. I did post about doing a winery tour. I got only one person that said that sounded good, and they were from DALLAS. I ran a Mustange club when I was in the military for 2 years, we had a treasury and everything. Had a Pres, and VP. We had cool stickers for the windows. Until we get enough ppl to say " Lets do this" or "lets do that" at a get together no matter where. Nothing can be accomplished. You have to start somewhere. I thought last month with 8 cars was a start. Dallas started with 8 cars. They did the flying saucer until they got about 20 + cars. Now ideas are flying and they are doing lots of stuff. Everything has to start out rough and ppls inputs smooth out the rough spots. Sure, sonic is cool, and I as for money, I am unemployed right now, don't have much cash to be tossing around, but one time a month does not Break anyone. I was even thinking about doing a Barbeque at like Town lake or something when summer comes. Lots of things to do, just have to get ppl involved.

Rant off.

Eric.

I had planned to come tonight, but got a last minute client emergency and was working until late. Blech.

Just for the sake of consistency, I'm going to make some similar comments here to the ones I made at the SCOA forums about some things I've been thinking about.

I'm with Eddie about needing some more purpose than just getting together, if this is going to be something we do for the long haul. Perhaps if we figured out some kind of reason to get together, rather than just say we're all going to Dave and Busters or Sonic, or wherever.

Maybe sometime someone from the smart center in Round Rock would come speak to us about something. Or maybe on a weekend day we'd all caravan somewhere like a winery tour. I'm sure if we put our heads together we can come up with a bunch of great ideas.

Perhaps even just having some kind of agenda for the monthly meetings that helps plan special events so people would know what they should expect at meetings. Post the agenda in advance so people know what is going to happen?

Just sitting around at a noisy restaurant talking isn't that appealing a prospect for me most of the time. Also, I'd suggest rotating meeting locations so that sometimes they're a little closer to those of us who get nosebleeds when they go north of the river ;). For me, it's close to 30 miles round trip to Dave and Buster's. That's a big time consideration, especially when meetings are still at the tail end of rush hour.

I'd also love it if we could try to maybe find locally owned businesses to patronize, rather than large national chains.

And I doubt I'll be able to make many Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. That's beginning to encroach on my non-smart social life (and shockingly enough, most of my friends probably wouldn't groove on being dragged to smart-centric happenings). So maybe we should also look at rotating times? For me, Sunday afternoon late would be fabulous.

Just my 2 cents, which in the current economy is probably worth much less.
