On 4/1/09 I became the proud owner of a 2009 Smart Passion Coupe, silver/black orphan. Drove to Jacksonville to pick her up. She's almost exactly like the Smart I reserved/ordered. (haven't named her yet) I love driving her.....she makes me smile. She gets attention wherever we go. My favorite comment so far was from a bank teller at the drive-thru. The teller said " Well I'm bigger than your car honey! ".

Hope everyone has a SMART weekend!

YIKES! My DDE or estimated delivery date was Aug.-Oct.2009. for several weeks. I checked it earlier today and it says "your vehicle delivery date can not be estimated at this time". What does this mean? Please tell me it means something good. I know it can take over a year, but the waiting is so difficult. Any comments, advice, info are appreciated!

Hi Everyone,

I just got my smart today and though I don't live in Orlando, I do travel there quite often. I am glad to see such an active group. Ken you appear to be a fabulous moderator. Looking forward to meeting many of you at future events.

To all Smarties:
First of all, thanks to the 10 smart cars and Owners who showed up Sat evening Dec 6 for the Smart cars at the Drive-In Movies event. We had a nice turnout and a great time at the Silver Moon. I appreciated the support.

Now on to upcoming events: One of these events is on the far West of our coverage area. This is simply because we are getting good suggestions and good support from that area. Please join us if at all possible and if you have additional suggestions for events please let me know.

1. This Saturday, December 13th we will be participating in the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots 5th Annual Christmas Car Show from 10:00AM to 3:00PM in Apollo Beach, Florida. Apollo Beach is South of Brandon, North of Bradenton and East of St. Pete on US RT 41. The show will be on the property of the brand new Sweetbay Supermarket on US 41. The Entry Fee is $10 per car plus an unwrapped toy for an Infant or a teenager. In place of a toy you can pay an additional $5 fee. There will be a DJ on site playing 50’s and 60’s music. There will be a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, Dash Plaques to the 1st 100 cars and a People’s Choice Trophy as well. There is space for 200 cars and between 150 and 200 are expected. The event is being hosted by The Roamin’ Oldies Car Club and the Branden Street Cruisers and there will be a lot of classics and street rods present to enjoy. We currently have 7 or 8 smart cars that will be participating and would love to see more from those of you on the West side of our club area if you can make it. This should be a fun day and we would be doing good at the same time. 100% of the proceeds go to Toys for Tots. It is suggested that you bring a folding chair and a cooler if you desire. Food and Beverages will also be available in the Sweetbay supermarket. Directions to the location are as follows: From I-75 take exit 246 and go East on Rt 672 for 2.3 miles to US 41. Turn South on US 41 for 3.4 miles to Mira Bay Village Plaza on the right. If you are coming North on US-41 the Sweetbay is 3.5 miles North of route 674 in Ruskin. The Street address of Sweetbay is 252 Harbor Village Lane, Route 41, South Apollo Beach. Please contact me at kwagar@tampabay.rr.com if you plan to attend.

2. Saturday, December 13th is also the date for our second monthly Drive-In restaurant meet which will be held at the Steak and Shake in Lake Mary at 4:30 PM. –The Steak and Shake is located at 4325 Lake Mary Blvd in Lake Mary. This is just off I-4 at exit 98. Convenient to everything East of Kissimmee to Sanford. Vickie and I are planning on attending the Car Show in Apollo Beach then make a speed run to Lake Mary so we hope to see you there. Vickie is having some out-patient surgery on Thursday of this week and because of that we will be unable to make the Lake Mary event. We hope that those of you that do make it have a good time and let me know how many show up.

Calling All Florida Smarties:
On Dec, 5, 6, & 7 the Sebring Raceway in Sebring Florida will be the site of the Historic Fall Sports Car Races. These races are put together and managed by Historic Sportscar Racing LLC.
I have been able to negotiate a deal with HSR, LLC which would include: Entry to the races for 1 day, a reserved parking corral for our smart cars in the paddock area, and participation in a parade lap of the track at noon in our cars. The normal entry fee for the races is $20 in advance or $25 at the gate and they would give us a discount to $15 payable at the gate. The normal per car parking charge in the Paddock is $15 per car and they would discount this to $5. There would be no charge to participate in the parade lap.
Therefore the total charge for the day would be $20.00 for one person in a smart car and $35.00 for two people in a smart car.
There are some restrictions which are as follows:
1. The deal is off if we have less than 20 smart cars show up.
2. They would like us to arrive together as a group so they can handle our fees and the waiver’s for the parade lap all at one time. This would require that we stage offsite and then come in together.
3. You would have to be in a smart car to participate.
4. They will require us to provide a sign for the parking corral which I would take care of.
5. Passengers for the Parade lap must be at least 8 years old to participate.
6. They would prefer cash and exact change for our entry fees to facilitate our entry.
7. We would need to confirm a pretty accurate participation number a week in advance of the date.
It is also clear that we would need to meet in Sebring the morning of the event by 8:00AM so it would be an early morning for most of us driving in from some distance. There are hotels in Sebring for those wanting to come the night before but reservations may be difficult to come by due to the race weekend.
Approximate Mileage to Sebring from:
Orlando=85 miles
Miami=172 miles
Ft. Lauderdale=154 miles
Ft. Myers=86 miles
Tampa=95 miles
Daytona Beach=139 miles

I believe that if we have 20 to 30 smart cars participate we would have a great time and the event would be well worthwhile. But I also believe that with the central location of Sebring and some efforts on all of our parts to convince our fellow smarties to join us we could turn out over 100 smart cars for this event.

I think we have about 30 days to determine if there is enough interest to move this forward. If you are interested please send me an e-mail at kwagar@tampabay.rr.com so that I can determine the level of interest and access your e-mail address for follow-up information. If not enough interest is expressed I will cancel and inform everyone.

For further information on the races click on the following link and then on the additional link for spectator information. http://www.hsrrace.com/HSR/HSRHome.nsf/weblinks/EJEN-7AFUMB?OpenDocument

Thank you for your interest.
