I don't know how else to respond to the email i just received, so i'm starting a "discussion."

Mine sounded the same.  I thought it sounded exactly the same, like there was a baseball card or something in there, slapping against the fan blades.  The dealership replaced it for me.  It was intermittent, but I'd made a recording on my phone and was able to play it for them when I went in, despite it not making the sound at the time I brought it in.

It's been mostly fine since then, though I heard a hint of something when it first got really cold out.  I've been ok through the winter.  Time for my two year visit soon.

My blower sometimes doesn't come on...it takes a few minutes to start, like it's in shock cuz it's so freakin' cold.

More distressing is that my horn stopped working. It's like they only could fit 20,000 "beeps" in the car, and I've used mine up.

I have the convertible, and the rear defroster is just not a "happinin' thing"

Also, the tire pressure light always comes on and it drives me batshit!

I want to drop the car off next week.
I have the convertible too, and my rear defroster has worked like a charm.

My tire light has gone off when my tires were low. Once it went off two days before I discovered I had a flat. Since then, it's been on. I have a feeling I just need to get it reset, and it's just too cold for me to check my air pressure. I need to buy a better gauge.

My blower comes on, despite the cold, but it does take a sec to warm up...so you're probably not missing much, considering the blast of cold air that comes out when before the engine warms up. However, I'd still be unnerved if it wasn't coming on when I flipped the switch.

I think my horn still works, though I admit that I rarely have used it. I bet I've used it five times max in the past two years.

Just call and make an appointment with Loeber. I haven't had any trouble getting in, so long as you give a little notice. They've addressed all my concerns as then have arisen.

My blower was acting up last fall.A good bump would make it stop until I hit another bump.I found that if I gave it a good whack with my right foot it would start again and then cry like a spoiled child.Loeber's changed out the blower unit and it has worked fine since.Cold has 'nutin to do with it,just a piece of crap part.SCOA(smart car of america) has a long thread about this very problem.

Have yet to hear back from smartusa about the autoshow and I have a feeling they aren't going to be there at all. So,Rick and I are going on Sunday, Feb. 21st if anyone wants to join us and we can schedule a group meet for another day.I really do miss our meets!
My blower motor started acting up about two months ago. It occasiontlly wouldn't turn on unless I tapped the dash by the switch. It started getting worse as time went on and I had to hit bumps in the road to get it to start working. I got tired of it acting up so yesterday morning I went to Loeber Motors and they replaced the motor. Works great now.
Mine too was a bump to bump on off thing last fall. Knauz replaced it and all has been fine this winter. My Cabriolet has had no problem with rear defrost..
My car is going in again this week for another blower! Second one in less than 4 months and today the check engine light came on AGAIN!! I am not a happy camper right now!
I had my blower replaced this week, also my horn.

I did the hydrogen deal in my tires, which I hope will stop that constant warning light asshatery

don't smoke around the tires with hydrogen! hydrogen is the smallest molecule and will seep right through the rubber!

my blower wouldn't come on once about a month ago during a humid rainy time, i drove half a mile with the window cracked open, then tried the blower again and it worked fine. i would guess it's more like a loose connection somewhere than the motor itself.

I am now on my 3rd blower motor.  Dealer sez : Tough luck, you are out of warranty.

This is a known defect. This car is so defective that it is illegal to drive it in Illinois.  (You need a heater so you can clear the frost from you windshield and see. )   I'll be damned if I give the dealer another dime.  I had it fixed by a local guy for $435.  I hear the dealership wants $875.  Let me know if you hear of a class action I can join.

Average life of a blower motor is 15,000 miles. This add .03 per mile to the car's cost.

I would have to be stupid to buy another Smart.

I think I'm on my third, too.  46,000 miles.  Although, maybe it's an issue with the quirky first year model, 2008?  I'm not sure.  The price was around $600.  I new a new model would be weird, so I purchased a 7 year, 72,000 mi warranty and it was covered.

i'm at 53,000 miles with the original blower, below 10F and it makes whiny sounds. i'm going on my second brake switch next week (locks car in park below 0F) the ABS/ESP has been out 3 years now, one thing i CAN live without! (no "creep" while stopped, probably saving the clutch, can do donuts!)

can't wait for June and the MW Rally!
