It seems that a lot of smart owners have indicated they have had blower motor problems. I would ask the dealership if they have any bulletins on this issue. I would think they have as other owners have commented their dealers have replaced them. On the headlight problem I would surmise a reluctance on the dealer's part is because tracing the problem can be time consuming. Usually, it is a proper grounding problem and if not that, a capacity or connectivity problem somewhere within the electrical system. No matter what it is not normal for there to be a difference.

Hey Everyone Mark Wienand here. I have had Blower motor problems In the past. I first had one of the first 2008s and My blower went out in the early winter of last year and they told me I was crazy there was nothing wrong......Only to find out the blower was out after the first cold snap of last winter everyones started going out and then all of a sudden mine was one of them and I wasnt Crazy anymore. Thanks Loeber For the concern. In Jan of last year I bought a 2009 cabrio and my blower has gone in and out the last month and I am too scared to take it in as to what they are gonna tell me now. Also I have another question? Has anyone else noticed that the passenger side headlight is dimmer than the Drivers side? I have had it in 3 times for that and they tell me it is normal and supposed to be that way. I havent seen anyone elses like that nor have I read or heard of such a thing. Any responses to the headlight issue?

Re. the heater/blower motor--mine went out on a bitter cold day in the middle of running errands. Then, the blower started up again a half-hour later on the way home! I spoke with Loeber, and they said to have it replaced anyways as it was likely to go out again if it did it once, and they took care of it right away. So, I'm guessing it's been happening to more than a few others.

To those with blower motor problems...mine made a small humming noise at mid-range every once in awhile, but has since stopped (one year old car). I hate to say all is well just so I don't hex myself...good luck with yours!

Hi, youse guys.
If you are talking about the heater motor, mine went out last winter on the coldest day we had. They replaced the entire motor for me. So far, this winter, it is working just fine. I hope yours will be too.

Report: Renault and Mercedes to team up on small car platform

According to a report in UK magazine AutoCar, Mercedes-Benz and Renault are planning to collaborate on a new modular micro-car platform. The new architecture would form the basis of the next generation of Smart cars as well as the new Twizzy electric vehicle from Renault. Like the current Smart ForTwo, the new platform will be rear engine and rear wheel drive but it will be able to accomodate a stretched wheelbase for a new ForFour. The two seater would arrive in 2013 and the four seater a year later. The last ForFour was actually a completely different front wheel drive car based on a Mitsubishi platform. Mercedes is developing all new three cylinder gas and diesel engines for the next Smarts and could also supply those to Renault. The thoroughly unloved semi-automatic gearbox in today's ForTwo is expected to be supplanted by a new 7-speed dual clutch unit. Finally Mercedes will carry on with electric drive versions of the Smart but it is unknown if they will collaborate with Renault on electric systems.
