Today I brought "Karl" in for the first 10,000 mile service at the Lynnfield, MA smart center, which included a synthetic oil & filter change and cabin carbon air filter change. With labor and disposal of the old "oil" it was $314.00, so please budget accordingly. I would not recommend changing oil any earlier than the manual recommends as it only throws away good oil an adds to the hazardous material waste stream.
I called Herb Chambers in Somerville, MA today and they told me the oil change would be 99.95.I still have about 4k before I need my oil change.

I am hoping that some of the local auto maintenance shops learn how to service these. I feel like we are at the mercy of a high end dealer that can charge whatever they want.

I picked up a filter at NAPA and some Mobil-1 and am just waiting for the 10k mark. I May change it sooner just to look at the oil, dirt, and make sure the filter $6.99 fits ok. I have a 4-post car lift and offer it anyone who wants to do their own oil change or just inspect the underneath. The oil change looks real simple. The twist-on filter is right near the rear of the car. In fact, maybe too accessible, I am wondering if we need an OEM cage or plate to protect it from aggressive backups into curbs and other low-lying road things. The lift is there for free, email me to set up at time. If there are a few who are interested, we can have a filter party some Saturday am or Sunday afternoon. I am in Portsmouth, RI.
I had my 10,000 mile service done at the Sommerville Smart Center in early Nov. The cost of the service cost me a total of $257.19, in and out in the 2 hours they told me.
I had my first service back in July at Lynnfield, and it cost me right around $250. The guy who serviced it told me the next one (20,000) would be much more intense - they would pull the engine to check everything out, and that I should plan on being there the whole day:( I'm right at 19,000 miles now and am planning my trip down from Maine to Lynnfield for January - Can't wait!
That price is outrageous- I will change oil myself and order the cabin filter- that is highway robbery. The oil cost about $18.00 tops- (Mobil one synthetic) the filter retails (oil for around $15.00) and the cabin air filter I have no clue but that job could have been easily done in an hour...hell Maybe I should go into repairing smart cars as that price is hideous. Are you sure they did not do other work?
I just had my first service which I had to have at 8500 miles because I have had it a year and, although I didn't realize it, you need a service at 10,000 miles or 1 years (whichever comes first). I had it done at Smart Center Hartford in East Hartford, CT and it cost $155 which I guess is cheap compared to the Lynnfield center. Of course, while I was there, I fell in love with a 2009 Brabus and traded in my 2008!!
I had mine done at Inskip,Warwick, RI. It cost $119.00. Seems they were right. They told me other dealers were charging way too much for service that does not need to be done in this area of the country. Lynnfield seems to gouge the price compared to the other dealerships. Nor surprised, since that is the dealership Dave Mayall keeps promoting.
DIY! you DO NOT need a lift to do the change. The oil change is SOOOO easy to do. Dont wait for the 10K. I did mine at 6k (all highway) and it appeared very dark (dirty).
oil is on usually special at autozone all the time: $30 for FIVE quarts of mobil one AND a mobil one filter (@12.99). Or some other variant of synthetic oil and filter special will do nicely.
The cabin airfilter took a maximum of TWO minutes! Walmart or amazon have the filets cheap.. FYI.. the filter is the SAME filter as the toyota sienna minivan. It fits PERFECTLY, and costs 2/3 less ($12.99 or so)... go to the SCOA discussion panels for the part #.
