The smart fortwo, and specifically the pure was rated as the least toxic vehicle available in a survey by Some press accounts list it at #2 (@ 0.7), but the source website states a score of 0.6, best in class and lowest overall. The Passion and Passion Cabrio also made the top 10.

Before we picked up our Passion last week, we drove a Suzuki Sidekick (30 mpg on the road). In the last 10 months, we drove 2,500 miles that included one 1,300 mile trip and another that was about 500 miles. The rest of the miles were 5-20 miles from home. We plan many more trips with SKWRLEY this next year.

I live in a three room house, 550 sq ft, I walk to work everyday, and walk or take the bus as much as possible. I usually only drive the smart pure without air conditioning on the weekend to get out of town.

Using only as much (i.e. materials to build the little adorable one, gas, etc.) as is essential to get me "to and fro" quickly and safely is an attractive (pun intended) rewarding experience. Since purchasing my little girl back in March, more than one friend has commented how I must feel like a "genius" in terms of my choice of vehicles. It's nice to know you can have (or be) a Rhode Scholar and a Rockstar all wrapped in one!!

We sold our Ford Ranger Super Cab Truck and rarely use our Toyota Highlander now that we have our smart car.

I am an Architect specializing in Historic and Green architecture. (It's hard to get more green than reusing a building.) I believe in leading by example. My office is on the 3rd floor of my restored historic house (with many green amenities), in a walking community and I now have a green car parked (most of the time) behind my house. Average fillup is 3.5 gal / week.

I'm using up some of my carbon credits from the past 20 years of not owning a car ;-)

I've had people thank me for doing my part for the environment by buying a Smart car, so I would like to pass that on to everyone else who has one too, Thanks!

Absolutely. I traded in my Range Rover for the Smart and am now saving hundreds of dollars a month on gas; money that can be spent on much better things. Although it may seem like a small contribution to the fight against large-scale pollution, the collective effort of the growing environmentally-aware population is sure to offset many negative effects.
