Does one of you own the blue hardtop that honked at us on Saturday, April 17th in Davenport at 53rd and Brady? It had Muscatine plates. Just wanted to say hi.

Hello from Cedar Rapids. We are Steve & Penny. Reserved our smart in June 2007, could not wait so bought a new yellow Passion on ebay. Finally our reservation was filled December 2008 and we now have a silver Passion. Keeping them both (his and hers).

I got a call Monday to "configure" my smart car. The dealership in Omaha was the one that called. I completed the configuration on the website. The dealer said the car should be here in about 4 months. What is your experiences. I am so hyped and excited.

Oh, My goodness! How awful, ihawk2k!! I have NEVER heard of such a thing about the not driving and the battery goes dead!! (And my Dad, who is a Master Mechanic, says these guys are full of hooey. Well, he didn't use that word, but you get the drift.) The theory you hold about the keys is more plausible. I think it stinks how they could not arrange to get you to your car. How horrible. (I would not be able to get anywhere without my car, it is my primary vehicle, and who can afford to drive a truck anymore?)
Thank you for sharing your story with us, it only accentuates the fact that this is something that probably should be a factory recall, and something done about it proactively, instead of a knee-jerk reaction.

OK - I have to share my story. I was hit with the shifter problem last week (like Mary), and had Roadside Assist take my car to LaVista. It turns out that Roadside Assist doesn't cover the RETURN of my car, and I had no way to get to Omaha. Anyhoo, after some negotiating, my car was shipped back to me, but the tow driver told me that my battery was dead, so he had to leave my car running ON THE TRUCK for the entire trip from Omaha to Des Moines. Apparently, someone at LaVista told him "if you don't drive these things, the battery goes dead." I'm guessing it was more likely the fact that I couldn't get my keys out of the ignition that led the battery to drain. Besides, when my car sat for 3 weeks while I was on vacation, the battery was fine.
BTW - who was the Blue car in WDM who shared the tow truck?
