Tunnel of Trees
On September 25-27, 2009, there will be a gathering of SMART cars at the Birchwood Inn, Harbor Springs, Michigan. The famous “Tunnel of Trees” is right outside their door. The Inn is a short 264 mi, 4 hour drive north of smart Bloomfield.

Along with Michigan's best fall color tour - "Tunnel of Trees" we can visit the Thorne Swift Nature Preserve, hunt for Petoskey Stones at the Petoskey State Park, play a hand at the Odawa Casino, visit either Mackinaw City or Charlevoix (a 45 minute drive away) to dine at unique restaurants and return to a roaring fire at the Inn.

Per the Birchwood Inn: "The Fireside Room off the lobby is a great gathering area for the group and you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages into this area as well. We also have a grill in the courtyard if you would like to do that one evening, or I can place you in contact with a caterer. We will also set up a complimentary wash station for the cars. For reservations, please have participants call Birchwood Inn at 800-530-9955 and identify themselves as with the SMART group. We will extend a 10% discount for reservations made at least 30 days prior to arrival. Our policy is first night's deposit in advance, cancellation of a reservation up to 48 hours prior to arrival receives a refund of deposit less a $10 administration fee. Cancellation within 48 hours of arrival forfeits the deposit. It is also helpful if you provide participants with our web address http://www.birchwoodinn.com so they can check out our room styles."

If we fill the Birchwood we will then secure additional nearby accomodations. Please reply to this posting that you are attending, and be sure to contact the Birchwood to secure your reservation at the Inn.

This should be a great weekend. I've been up here several times on the Harley and the roads and scenery is teriffic. Don't miss lunch at Legs Inn.
Made my reservations - Don't forget if you make your reservations soon you save 10% on the room rate !
Made my reservations today.

Note to anyone planning to go: ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT to get your reservations at the 10% off group rate.

Should be a great time - see you there.
Wish I could go, but a bad weekend for me.
Have fun all!!
I made my reservations in August. Rain or shine, I will be there as I've always wanted to see the Fall colors Up North! How many are going and who??
Glad you're going to make it. I'm leaving in the morning and will lead whoever wants to go on a longer more scenic drive, while T&T is leaving after lunch Fri for a more direct (Freeway) route. I'm leaving from the dealership at 8:30, stop for breakfast in Keego Harbor, and up the Lake Mi shoreline.

Please send me a message of you want to drive up with us in the am.

Looks like 8 cars so far.

Go over the the EVENTS tab (top of page) and look for Tunnel of Trees event.

I've had no response from anyone wanting to leave from the dealership @ 8:30 and take the long route. So I will NOT be stopping there, but rather leaving from home.
Attention: West Side sMUG members attending the Tunnel of Trees!

I'll be crossing the state to the west side via Bay City, Cadillac, and Manistee to travel up the very scenic M22, to Traverse City then up 31 to Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

If any west siders would like to meet up and travel together, contact me by e-mail: mismart -at- comcast -dot- net. Please include a phone number to contact you in the car with.

I should be thru Manistee around 1:00pm. Friday. That would probably be the best place to meet up.
Thanks to all for making this a great event. Tonights dinner was the Chicken Pot Pie we picked up at the Good Hart General Store - YUM !
We had a great time as well. Thanks everyone for the great company and fabulous weekend! Did we luck out or what with the weather?! What looked to be a rainy day on Saturday, turned out to be absolutely fabulous. What a beautiful day!!!

Thanks to TNT for organizing this event. The weather turned out great and had a opportunity to meet several new friends. Great group of 'smarties' and a generally wonderful weekend.

Sorry about the 'gas stress' Bloomfield, but you know that smarts get awesome mileage ;~)

'Tonights dinner was the Chicken Pot Pie we picked up at the Good Hart General Store - YUM !' We did the same, tasted wonderful last night after the trip home and even have some leftovers!

Adrienne and I stopped at one of my favorite places on the way home for lunch (The Brown Trout in Indian River) and got two quarts of their famous Smoked Trout Chowder as a carry out. YUM2.

On our way into Indian River, I spotted Suzie's car at the Cross in the Woods and left a note on her windshield - be that suprised her.
