Just got home, tired, frostini is sitting in my driveway. 300 miles on her today, with the continental divide somewhere in the middle. Got the floormats too!Oh yeah, and a car cover. More later!!!

My car has been at the dealer's since at least Friday. Catching the train late tomorrow morning, 8 hour ride hotel overnight, and at 10 am have a date with a smartie...;-D

I'll try your 2-1 downshift in manual. Up to 96 miles today and am on the 6th gallon identifier on the dash. Will try and fill-up next week.

The more stuff that runs with electrical motors, the better. My intention is to use the solar to run the electrical, charge the battery, and not have to engage the alternator except at night (where I live, it is high desert, and I love the idea that in the summer, I could leave the air-conditioning on while I am parked in the sun while I'm at work or just anywhere...) and so improve the mileage.

The solar thing is out of my own head, and my friend Lee has the electrical engineering know-how (hands on and theory). He sees it as do-able, but he wants to see what we are working with before he develops plans. We will be using a thin film solar tech (slightly flexible), so we will need to make a slight inset in the roof so that we do not change the wind factors over the top. He will make a mold from the top in order to make preliminary prototypes that he can risk destroying, then when he overcomes the physical obstacles that have not been predicted that way, then we will tool down the spare top, put it together, and swap it out on the smart. We are going to try to make it a good, finished look as if it was manufactured that way. Who knows, if we document it well, maybe we can do more than one vehicle...It could work for more than just smarts. Hey, here is a question you can probably answer for me:

Does the air conditioning unit run off of the drive (ie belts), or is it a separate, electrically run unit.? (The latter I hope)

My Smart (frostee) was unloaded from the boat on Sunday, the 12th. It is scheduled to arrive at the dealer on the 25th (a week from Saturday), give or take a day. Dealer is closed on Sundays, so allowing Monday for them to go over it, I will pick it up on Tues the 28th. Have my train reservations, my friend Lee & I will go together Monday, get there about 8pm, then 250 mile break-in trip across the rockies to get home.

LOL, will probably stop every half hour to take pictures of car + scenery. (Scenery only as background for frostee)

A lot of commonality between the suspense for Smart, suspense for election, except I know the outcome of the smart trip. Getting the cargo nets, car cover, 3 xtra oil filters, 1 extra air conditioner hepa filter, no-hole front license plate holder, AND an extra roof panel (for solar development) and a container of the adhesive that Smart uses to glue the roof on.

Have to remind myself to exhale...

So do you get to drive your smart much??????

Yeah, I've been in the gritted teeth stage of suspense for a while now. Now at least I get to do something about it, make reservations, etc. I've still got the butterflies-in-my-stomach-I'm-5-yrs-old-and-it's-xmas-eve kind of feeling. I talked to the dealership, and they said that 2 weeks after the unload date for Baltimore should be just fine, so I get to make my reservations.

I know I have to give my little car a big hug...

Oh, and as of today, my dde window jumped from 9/3 to 9/26. Go figure. At least I will be in the first month of the new window.

The Wallenius site has finally come up with info this am!! My smart was loaded into the "Tampere" over the weekend, and has left Bremerhaven. It is scheduled to unload in Baltimore on 10/10. OMG. how much suspense can I take!

My DDE window has stuck at 9/3 since it backed up to that from 9/6 in that latter part of Aug. So I'm getting it in October... especially since I need 2 weeks to book train tickets to Denver (less than 2 weeks and the fare doubles, and I am a tightwad)... (a friend is going to accompany me)... I know you are enjoying yours immensely, But I'm still waiting. (+sigh+)
