I've owned Mercedes for 40 years. They make an excellent car so I wasn't "afraid" of the smart's small size. Everyone thinks I bought it for the gas mileage but I've loved its looks since seeing it in Europe years ago.

Thank you Bonnie. I have been up on Mount Evans once before and experienced the cold and wind and the drivers on the wrong side of the road. Google Maps lists the drive from the smart center to the base of Mt Evans Byway at 1hr and 8 mins, if you add 30 minutes it is still well under 2 hours which is why I alloted two hours one way. (Google tends to be conservative on their time estimates in my experience). Finding a good picnic stop will be the challenging part, as a fallback we could stop for food in Idaho Springs, if it is cold and rainy. I am looking forward to meeting you ... we now have 5 cars signed up. It will be a lot of fun and I will call you when we get to "buffalo herd overlook" (I am estimating about sometime between 10am and 10:30am for ETA).
Hello Bonnie, I was planning on heading up I-70 to Idaho Springs and then all the way up the mountain. We could definitely meet you at the Lake. I could call you on the way (or my wife, actually, as I don't use my phone while driving :-)). Of course: If the weather turns bad we might not drive up to the top. Is there a nice picnic area at the lake? Looking forward to meeting you, tobias
