My favorite things about smart
It's ability to affect positive changes.
About Me
Statewide Homeless Management Information System administrator. I have to travel throughout Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula each year. I live in the south of Michigan in the capital for my work but I am from Traverse City in the north. I ordered when I did as I saw the smart as a way to have more freedom to travel in todays culture. The vehicle seems to be all I need without the unnecessary. It also appears to offer much more in other areas than I would expect.

Important for the life of your tires and mileage...

Posted on October 26, 2008 at 9:28am 3 Comments

I got my smart in the middle of August and I am very satisfied with everything about the car. Not one negative experience with it, and it continues to offer surprises. I have consistently gotten better mileage than it is rated at, and the higher the octane I put in the better it gets.

Starting a week ago, my tire pressure warning started to come on for the first few blocks on my way to work in the morning as the temperatures have been falling to frost point and below. After a few… Continue

Wow! What a difference, I think I will crack 50mpg and what fun!!!

My smart has been averaging 41 to 45 mpg since I got it in August. Not that it is all that important to me anymore, I am totally sold on my smart for a multitude of reasons. I am now about to hit 3,000 miles, and the price of gas is starting to come down. From the beginning I have been filling it with 91 Octane, which is the highest our local Speedway stations carry.

Lately, a Sunoco station next to the office complex where I work has been posting much lower gas prices than the ones… Continue

Life at ground zero for economic pain and auto industry greif...

Posted on September 28, 2008 at 10:36am 4 Comments

My most frequent question being in a large college and auto making town has been "Where did or do you get that?" My funniest answer was "Out of a vending machine at the mall." I always give the web address too.

Second would be what mileage I am getting. My most interesting answer

was a short discussion with a man driving his worn out Geo convertible. I told him my mileage probably wasn't quite as good as his, he gets 50-60 in the Geo and I used to own one of those too. However,… Continue

My first holiday tour in my smart...

Posted on September 3, 2008 at 7:25pm 4 Comments

Wow!!! I went 916 miles and only put in 37 dollars of gas in during the trip. I was able to go home, visit all of my friends and travel to all the places I haven't been to in years. I admit, my father put in three gallons for me when I let his wife drive with him for about an hour one morning. When I got home I filled it back up for another 30 dollars and after figuring it all out, it costs under 8 cents a mile to operate, it rode wonderful, up those long winding roads that most cars can't… Continue

Interesting lesson while breaking it in...

Posted on August 23, 2008 at 9:58pm 10 Comments

I took a day trip to the west coast today. After filling up for the first time at an amazing $32.74 for 8.3 gallons of 92 octane, I plotted my TomTom to take me to Saugatuk by freeway, 94 miles one way. I did my freeway with a fair amount of ease, it took a bit of adjustment to get used to the wind and the gawking maneuvers of some of the other vehicles, but it was pure joy. I got to the park just in time to get some pictures of the lake as it started to sprinkle, and when I got back to the car… Continue

Hey Brent, I like the color of your Smartie!  When I bought mine, yellow was not available.

You're sure having a lot of fun! So am I. At first I really hated that sun roof, but I guess I'm used to it now. It's just that it can get soooooooo hot here in ABQ.
As I stated in my blog, I took a very long drive onto the mountain yesterday, and the only thing that disappointed me was how rough the ride was on some bumpy roads. Sometimes enough to jolt your teeth. Oh well, it's still a great little car. I don't think I'm getting as high mileage as some people, but I am saving $, so I guess it doesn't matter much because SunnyD is just so fun. Made my first payment yesterday; guess I won't eat well for a while, but I sure will have fun driving! Well, I need to lose some weight anyway! hahahaha!

That's what the dealer told me too: "some time in August" - I figure I'm within about two weeks, since they told me "about a month" earlier this month. But it sure is hard.

Well, I don't want to be antisocial or anything, it's just that I am from Traverse City and I miss it so badly, there are no beaches here like there are there. The main reason I reserved is I knew that soon I wouldn't be able to afford to get home very often. I also have to travel extensively in the Upper Peninsula and Upper Lower Peninsula for my job in the summer. When the Smart gets here, I will be heading north for a long awaited get away to see my family and friends. Give me a hollar when you are in town! I have seen a yellow cabrio here, but only that. There is a red/black in Traverse I have seen too, that was back in March.

Hey Brent, too bad you won't be joining the smart parade or fun run or whatever. My mom still lives in Lansing and I usually get home every summer maybe some summer I'll be there with my smart!
