I bought my warranty through Intercontinental Warranty Service (IWS). I purchased it in Sept 2008 when my car had 1600 miles on it, and it cost $1306.00. The coverage is 7 yr, 100,000 miles. It is a named exclusion warranty, so it covers everything except what is named in the brochure. The thing about this company is that it is exclusive to credit unions, so I don't believe it is offerred without accounts at a partnered credit union.
I work for and am a member at Alliant Credit Union in Chicago, and that is how I was eligible to get this product. It is much better than what Smart was offerring. Alliant did end up partnering with a new warranty company, Member's Choice MRC. They felt that it offers better coverage for our members.
If you would like I can give you quotes and send you any information about the warranty that would be more helpful in your decision. I would just need the year, model, current mileage, and your zip code. If you visit this website, you can view the brochure on the right hand side of the page under "forms". It tells you what is and what is not covered. You will see that it covers pretty much everything.
Let me know what you think. I'm always happy to help out a fellow Smart owner :)
Ed, Mine has the black interior. One problem I have discovered is the black carpet shows EVERY spec of dirt. I will be getting some lighter mats asap. I have had the most fun driving that little car around the past two days. Every where you go people wave, point, smile, ask questions, take pics, and some simply bust out laughing! I've got it bad. She got washed twice today! Take care! Richard
