Bodywork dings

Posted on August 29, 2008 at 12:41am 15 Comments

When we went to pick up 'Tiny Red', we were given a hard sell on a protective coating for the body work. We didn't go for it. But, I left the dealership full of fear and trepidation. Apparently from what we were told, the slightest ding was going to be irreparable, the only recourse being to replace the panels. I'm interested in finding out how many of you Smart owners out there didn't take out the protection package, and how is your bodywork holding up so far?

2008/2009 Model changes

Posted on August 19, 2008 at 10:22pm 4 Comments

We picked our Smart up on Sunday after an unbelievable short wait of 9 weeks!. Anyway, when we were at the dealership I asked what changes are being made to the Smart in the 2009 model. Apparently the only changes being made are that the yellow & red colors are being retired. The current red is being reolaced by a darker red. Thats all. Nothing mechanical, apperance is the same, nothing being added. If you have yellow or red, take care of it as it will be a collecter item.

Hi Guys!
It was a pleasure meeting you at the parade last weekend. One of the biggest benefits of being a smartcar owner is getting to meet a bunch of really nice people with similar interests! :>) Ron Gauss is the person (the vendor) on the Smart Car of America forum that sells the medallions. Here's the link:

Also, if you guys aren't already on the SCOA website, you should check it out. There's a LOT more stuff happening there than on the smartusainsider website. www.smartcarofamerica.com
and check out the PNW section if you haven't already! :>)

Hi all in the Seattle area--
I ordered on 3/15/08 and the estimator shows a delivery in the summer of '09. I'll hit the orphan list soon and hopefully move that up. Congratulations to all of you already on the SMART road.
Claudia from Tacoma.

Welcome aboard! I've found that the ruts in I-5 are not that bad in a smart. My Suzuki Sidekick is much worse then the smart as the wheel width is inbetween the smart and a full sized vehicle.

Enjoy your ride.

Just checked the e-mail and see you got your smart!!!
Congrats - I know what you mean about I-5 and the ruts the big cars have caused, we danced around a bit driving up from Seattle when we got ours. Most of the roads we drive on have not been a problem the smart is a really smooth ride. I know you will love it and the more you drive the better it gets! I'll watch for a red and black passion in Fairhaven/Bellingham, I'll be the grey haired lady in the blue/black on waving like crazy. It would be fun to park both of them in front of "Tony's" and have a cup of coffee and watch the reaction of people as they stroll by.

Just got an e-mail that you picked up your smart today from smartcenter. Tell your husband that I've lost three teeth so far on that stretch of I-5 that he found to be rough! :>) I avoid that stretch of I-5 whenever possible. If I go up to smartcenter from Olympia, I take 512 over to 167 and go up that way just to avoid that section of road. It'll certainly rattle you to pieces in the "short wheel-based" smartie!! :>) On MOST roads though, it's a totally smooth ride, as you will see. Just be mindful of those signs that say "DIP IN ROADWAY", 'cause in the smart, those can be real attention getters. I hit one once at just the right speed, and my lower back hurt for the rest of the day!! :>( Otherwise, I LOVE this beautiful, cute little car!!! ENJOY!!!

Just got a call from the dealership to 'come get your car'. I went on the waiting list about 3 or 4 mths ago. I then put my name on the orphan list 3 weeks ago and 'Bingo' I pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Yeah, can't wait. So if you see a red smart driving around Whatcom Co with a grey haired lady or bald headed man driving it, give us a wave.

Felicity,
I will be on the lookout for a red passion - hope you get it soon. We lived in Semiahmoo for 8 years and then moved to Fairhaven in 2000 and never looked back - this little car is perfect for this area. We are retired and are looking forward to trips to the coast and over to the wine country in Eastern Washington.

It would be nice to be able to meet others in the area who have Smarts - maybe as ownership grows in Whatcom county it might be fun to try to get together for lunch or???
