Needing Tea & Sympathy

Posted on October 23, 2008 at 9:18pm 8 Comments

1788 miles, and the dreaded CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on. Called Roadside Assistance, who arranged a tow for tomorrow AM from here (Springfield, IL) to the nearest Smart Center (Plaza Motors in Creve Coeur, MO---100 miles away). I'm distraught! Just thought I'd throw this out here. (No, it's not---or shouldn't be---the gas cap put on wrong or too loosely.) *sigh*

Windup Key for the Cabriolet

Posted on October 18, 2008 at 12:20pm 7 Comments

I received my windup Key from www.windupkey.com; however, I can't install it. The inside of the rear hatch door is different from the illustrations in the directions, even after removing the pieces which fit/hold the the bars over the windows when you want that full convertible feel. I've emailed Mark Shaw at www.windupkey.com, but I thought I'd check here as well. Thanks!

St. Louis smarty

My best friend, who lives in St. Louis (where I bought my blue-silver cabriolet) sent me an August 13th clipping from the Kirkwood Webster Journal, page A3. Headline: Little Smart Car brings big-time fun to seller. The owner is Ron Gaus. Pretty interesting article--talk about a SmartCar enthusiast!

Now tire pressure too low?

Posted on July 18, 2008 at 11:51pm 7 Comments

I lowered all 4 tires to a pressure of 36psi (from 44). Now the emergency low tire pressure light is on continuously. *sigh* I rechecked the pressures (all OK), and then called smart Road Side Assistance; they recommended returning to the dealership for an adjustment of the transducer(?), I think. Did this happen to any other smart owners? THANKS.

Tire pressure too high?

Posted on July 15, 2008 at 7:28pm 5 Comments

My smart cabriolet is 3+ weeks old, and I just passed 500 miles today. I checked the tire pressure yesterday with a digital gauge, and (3 hours car cold) it was 44 psi all around. It had to have left the dealership this way. While 44 is the max inflation for these tires, the inside driver door plaque says pressure should be 29 front + 36 rear. I called my dealer, Plaza Motors in Creve Coeur, MO, and "Steve" in service said he likes to keep them a bit high, ~36 psi all around, because the tires… Continue

Hey, Phil,
Funniest thing tonight. I pulled into the shopping center on Dirksen (Capital City) and saw another blue/silver cabriolet! (It has a white racing stripe and no windup key.) I had to park next to it and find the owner. She was at the Hallmark store and lives just north of Rochester. I put her onto this site and our group. Hopes she checks us out. Her vanity plate is FIRM 1.

Hi Judy,
So you're a northender too? We're kind of at the extreme north end in Walnut Hills subdivision, about a mile south of Cantrall. I work at for the state at the Town and Country Towers on Outer Park, just west of MacArthur. My mom lives on the west end, so that's why I'm in that area often. So ou have a wind-up key? I'm holding off for a hitch and bike rack with it. These area a blast to drive! You sure draw the looks from the SUVer's too.

Hi Judy,
I must be the 'other' Springfield blue smart car owner. I have seen another blue one, possibly yours with a silver safety frame around town. There is also a red one and a white one with a wind-up key on the back, and a yellow one which we saw at a funeral home back in September. Sure am enjoying the mileage!

Judy: Snow or no snow... the paddles are a great idea. I can't say for sure they help with the handling, but they are fun as heck!

Since I got it off of SCOA, I don't know how to send it w/o the logo on there. Sorry.
