"This 2015 fortwo looks like a Scion iQ. I have a 2009 cabrio. It will probably be my one and only. If they now have a manual transmission and are not going to offer it in the US, then I think Dr. Winkler does not understand the US market. A…"
"Just had new front rotors and pads, exhaust system, and both rear axels replaced (axels had rustedand the rings had cracked and were sending faulty data to the ABS, 27,000 miles). Dealer wanted almost $3,000. My nephew, whom I did not reaize now has…"
"I live in the Wiloughby-Eastlake area. I only see maybe 1 or 2 other fortwos a week. In fact, I have never even spoken to another owner. Doesn't answer your question but I wonder how many others have a similar story."
"1. Better auto transmission and/or a true manual option (6-speed would be nice)
2. Better suspension. I know the wheel base is small but there has to be a way to do it.
3. Better mileage (like the rest of the world's…"
"I'm not really surprised that sales are down. After the initial "rush" from folks who had been wating a long time for the smart to come to the US I think a slowdown in sales was inevitable. Add in the economic downturn in general and…"
My experience is different. I used manual mode a lot at first and found that I got much better mileage in automatic mode, averaging 39-40 mpg. The computer is smarter than we are. I will got to manual when I am going a steady 35 mph and the…"
2 points for noticing my Barabbas Easter reference. This whole orphan thing is like "I am Spartacus"
"No, I am Spartacus" I just want the car I ordered.
Here's a thought.. If each dealer has a set amount of monthly Smarts, and folks who made reservations bypassed the salesmen's commissions by ordering on line, wouldn't the dealership rather get more orphans, so that the sales team can make better commissions on finding you an orphan and adding options ? What incentive does the dealership have to fill your order ?
Hi Keith---I'm sorry as well that things didn't come together Saturday in Chagrin Falls. Sounds like some people are trying to get something going down at the Mid-Ohio racecourse in Lexington. That would be fun. Hoping to meet you somewhere/sometime. If you hear of anything let me know. Thanks. Dave G.
Hi Keith. Just want to let you know that I picked up my red and silver coupe today from smart center bedford. Took about 14 months. I'm feeling both excited and a little anxious. Hope I settle down in a day or two. I hope to meet you and other smarties in the area sometime soon. Take Care. Dave G.
I have also read that some people have tracked their car from start to finish. A mystery to me. It has been 3 months since I configured so I am hoping to hear something in the next few weeks, but it might be like you said --- I might not get any word till it is at the dealership. I have been waiting 15 months since I reserved, so I guess I can wait a little longer. Hope you are enjoying your car. Did you get the dealer to add any extras??
Thanks for saying Hi. I too have seen only a few Smarts since I got mine last May. I have talked to a couple owners on line but haven't met any one yet, hope to when the weather improves. "Milo" and I are out every day,I live out on the southwest side and work out east a forty two mile round trip. Hope to meet you out and about some time this spring. Be safe and happy motoring. Dave
Hi Keith -
At first the dealer said to put a bit of lube in the removable roof rail contact pointed anchors, but that did not seem to work, and now she says smart is looking at that last rib support I mentioned that is not as tight as the others. On the other hand, I understand that convertables are naturally a little more "flexy" and more subject to noises. And the magic mechanism of this top is way cool.
