Day 5:Today was the last day of my great experience at the Hambach plant. I had a meeting with a person who is dedicated to organize and implement all US specific issues at the Hambach plant. As you probably know, US smarts are in some ways different from European ones. For example, the smart gets different headlights, different sun shields and a panic button on the key. These are just some examples to comply with US regulations and different consumer tastes.…See More

Day 4:Today, I started at 6 am - early shift. When you have the chance to get insights into production, I think it is very important to work both shifts. Normal workers also switch shifts every week – meaning one week late shift, one week early shift. Thus, I adjusted my schedule to their rhythm. After quality checks and headlights installation last week, I put together the flat-tire-set today. As you probably know, a smart has a repair set for tires which is located below the co-drivers floor…See More

As promised here is a short video from the insides of the plant.

Day 2. Today I will actually participate in producing a smart. In order to ensure a smooth production, every step of the production process is thoroughly planned and all parts have their special location. The assembly line is divided into different stations. At each station something else…

Today was my first day at Hambach, France. Hambach is located between Saarbrucken and Strasbourg, around 65 miles away from the German border. It is located next to a big highway in order to ship the cars as fast as possible to their next destinations, e.g. Bremerhaven.…
