Acceleration on the Freeway

I'm tired of people asking me how my Smart accelerates onto the freeway. I decided to make a video and show them.

Here it… Continue

The cop and the Jackhammer

Posted on July 17, 2008 at 6:37pm 2 Comments

I was stopped at a light today in a construction zone. A police officer was standing on the other side of the road looking at me. I could tell he wanted to talk so I rolled down my window. The sound of the jack hammer next to him was deafening so we both had to shout over the noise.

Normal questions were flung across the street as cars passed between us and I waited for the light to turn green.

"How do you like it?" he yelled.

"Love it" I yelled… Continue

A really dumb comment

Posted on July 16, 2008 at 6:54pm 6 Comments

I've noticed that a lot of Smart owners have commented about the dumb question they get about being hit by a Semi.

This morning, I was out and was stopped by a couple of guys wanting to look at the car. They were impressed, sat in it, asked about gas mileage, all the normal stuff. Then a third guy walked up and spouted off about how it was unsafe because he saw a Geo get hit by a Ford F150 and it wasn't a pretty sight. As if that was somehow related to my Smart. I tried to explain… Continue

Spouse is uncomfortable with the attention

Posted on July 14, 2008 at 9:35am 5 Comments

My spouse took my Smart to visit a friend yesterday. It hasn't been hard to decide which car to take anymore with gas continuing to climb. I called to see how it was going.

"Everyone is staring at me", she said.

True, that is one of the things to get used to when driving. I have grown so used to it that when I drive my Edge I notice that people aren't staring and it causes me to pause and remember that I'm not in the Smart.

She says it takes getting used to… Continue

Open House across the street turns into a car show at my house

Posted on July 13, 2008 at 9:55pm 5 Comments

There is a home for sale two houses down across the street. I live on a 1 block street with T intersections at either end so there isn't much traffic normally. But with the open house there has been a steady stream of cars and people on the street. Which means every time I go outside, the stream of people leave the open house and walk across the street to look at my Passion.

I bet if I offered the Smart as part of the house they could get an extra $60,000 for the house and I could… Continue

I put her in her car seat in the front seat. We pushed the passenger seat all the way back before we put her car seat in and adjusted it. It feels very secure, and the airbag light stays off.

We were concerned before we tried it about whether the pressure with which we installed the car seat (really really tight) would simulate enough weight for the airbag to not deactivate but it hasn't - the airbag consistently deactivates whether she is or is not sitting in the seat.
