Houston smart car Club at Papa's Ice House

"Thnx for both suggestions.  I will be taking the car in soon to replace two panels ( a pickup truck bascking up with the tailgate down hit the back of the parked smart) and will have both these suggestions checked out. Mike Sawran"

"Sounds like it may be the rods inside the door that allow the inside lever to open the door. Might be holding the door latch in the open position (?)"

Driver's door won't close.

During the hot summer months the driver's door on my smart will not latch. I have to pull the door handle on the inside and slam the door 2 or 3 times before it will close and latch. I've had it in to two dealerships. One told me the latch was dry and needed to be lubed. That helped for about two weeks. The second told me it was over-lubed and needed to be cleaned. After seeing a number of posts about really bad dealer service and attitude, I think I need to add my recent experience:



Last Sunday (Fathers' Day) we discovered the right side marker light (just in front of the door) was dangling by its power cord. The plastic clip holding it in had broken, and it kept falling out if its proper location. I rigged a temporary fix with duct tape, then discovered the driver's door wouldn't latch...until I really slammed it.
