smArt Frogs Update

Posted on September 15, 2009 at 7:25pm 0 Comments

I have both fenders done now--check out the new pictures! I'm not sure if the vinyl dots will stick to the gas cap cover, but I'll try a swirl design there anyways, and peel it off it it doesn't work. I've added my jewelry business URL to the back bumper--might as well advertise, eh? (And--sales of the jewelry benefits charity--hence the name, You'll see more frogs across the back door of the car soon...I usually get the work done on weekends, especially now that it's… Continue

Frogs Alive! smart art

Posted on August 1, 2009 at 11:10pm 0 Comments

I've been thinking about doing some original art on my car since I got it, and finally figured out what to do. I found a friendly sign shop who is giving me scraps of vinyl sign material. Then I punch out little dots, and peel the backing off with a tweezers. The frogs are my own stencil, and the swirls and the rest are done free-hand. I'm just planning to do the back, bottom section of the car, leaving the rest black. It takes time, but I should have the rear left fender done soon, then I will… Continue

Wrench Light Update

Posted on January 11, 2009 at 1:00am 4 Comments

Following up on my previous post (below), the dealer called today to confirm that it was a year since the car was built--and yes, the date in the door is 12/07. Since I have nearly 9000 miles on it, he suggested we go ahead and schedule the one-year maintenance to replace fluids, filters and oil. So I'll go in on Wednesday (weather permitting) -- and, my little blackie really needs a car wash, so I'm glad to go and let them do that as well!

Chicago Snow

Posted on December 27, 2008 at 6:37pm 8 Comments

Well, my little smartie was no match for the recent snow & ice in Chicago! After trying to get her out of the garage with about 6" of snow and a sheet of ice underneath, I enlisted my husband's help to push her back in and left her there for the duration. As I walked around town, though, I felt good that mine was not one of the many, many cars I saw spinning their tires, sliding sideways, or even denting their fenders just trying to navigate the side streets. Now that the rain has ridded us… Continue

Cross-Country Mileage

Posted on August 31, 2008 at 12:20am 4 Comments

UPDATED- (Speed question.) Well, I finally sat down to figure out mileage on my cross-country trip from Chicago to Arizona and back. We took the southern route (Kansas/Texas/NewMexico) down, and the northern route (Utah/Colorado/Nebraska) back. And...the verdict ranged between 32 and 43 miles per gallon -- pretty much the same as on the flatlands of the midwest prairies, averaging 38 mpg with the air-conditioning running pretty much full blast. This was driving mostly at 70-75+ mph, and… Continue

Yours is awesome. Can people walk by and just pop the dots off? I thought I was ordering two full panels of vinyl wrap, so people wouldn't mess with 'em. When they arrived they were strips and I'm a bit concerned - but - oh, well..... It looks good enough for now. I noticed yours a couple days ago and assumed the car was a wrap. I'm totally impressed you undertook such a time consuming project. I hope it lasts for years and years!!!

So, you are doing your own 'wrap' by yourself one Dot at a time like a mosaic? Wow, that's cool. Will it be cheaper than a wrap place? What will it cost you (with your labor, time is money, lol)?
