well, when i first got it i paid attention. best was 47. worst was 36. generally, i got 38-42. i don't drive slow though...on the highway or otherwise. but that what i got despite that. i haven't checked mpg in months now. I'm content and really, whatever I'm getting beyond that doesn't change that I'm keeping the first car I've loved in a long time.
Stephen, No there were no bribes involved. I suddenly found myself without a car and gave my sob story to my brand specialist. He worked hard to find me an orphan but here they are few and far between. Then I got the call that their manager was willing to sell the showroom model coupe and I got first dibs. It was my lucky day and I sure love drive the little guy instead of a big truck that got only 19 mpg. My first fill-up showed 36mpg WooHoo! Not sure how long dealers keep a model on the floor. This one was apparently put into service in Apr 08 but only had 9 mi. so it had not been used as a driving demo only show alongside the cutdown version. Good luck it is definitely worth the wait. We live in Riverdale, Utah and have yet to see a Smart in our area. Apparently it is taking a little longer for deliveries to find their way west. So far we have had no contact with the dealer, only a EDD of Sep to Dec 2009 from Smart USA. Does Larry Miller realize he is a dealer?
I just got Marta on 5/27 so no winter driving yet! I drive from Cottage Grove to AmFam - east 8 miles one way, 4 -4way stops, two stop lights and 2 regular stops....getting 36 mpg with that commute. Not too bad. I haven't done any real distance yet to judge highway.
