- My story, love at first sight: SMART in Paris, Christmas 2003. Came home and search the web. Found that Canada got SMART in 2004, then heard that USA would get SMART in 2006 - came and went with no word of why SMART did not arrive. In 2007 finally word that SMART was really coming to USA in 2008. I got on the reservation list March 22, 2007 (just 3 days after they opened it on the 19th).
SMARTs began arriving in January 2008 but I did not get a call for mine until February. It was to arrive around Valentine's (apropos), but apparently there was a "hold up at the dock" in Long Beach, It took another month before it finally arrive, again apropos it was exactly 1 year to the day from my reservation 3/22/08.
So I have had my SMART BLEU for over 3 months. It has been around San Diego, up to Temecula/Hemet, and even all the way to Las Vegas. I am averaging about 34mpg, but my daily commute to work is only a few miles and all city streets. One fill up on the Vegas trip was 42mgp though!
Hang in there waiting for YOUR SMART. I called the local dealer (SMART San Diego at Mercedes Kearny Mesa) several times during my month long wait and before. Almost all of the responses were vague, "it hasn't arrived yet; we'll call you when it does." No one could seem to figure out where it was along the way, only "it has shipped" or finally "it has arrived." I found it quite incredulous that I can track my pizza from Dominos online from prep to delivery, but a company partnered with Mercedes doesn't have a tracking system for my car reservation.
Overall, I am SO HAPPY with my SMART!!!

anyways, I've been trying to find more participants from my home state to take my Smart Car owner survey. I have two Great Danes and now I will have to try to get them both in the back at the same time just so I can get a picture. But this time I am putting down a large sheet of plastic so I won't have to spend a hour with a lint brush cleaning up the hairs (forgot about that). I bought the doors form Smart and ordered them when my car came in. It took about 10 days to get them. Cost was about $700 for two doors and hood. Will post new picture probably this weekend.

- Had the same problem with the dealership here in Minneapolis. They had no way of checking until one day there it was. I ordered it in Oct and got it middle of May. Gotta love it. I first saw them in Europe about 7 years ago and tried many, many times to find a place to test drive one. Never did until 3 weeks before mine came in.
I have changed the doors and hood on mine to silver and will post a picture this weekend. Really fun.
