Invade a Small Town - Old Town Spring Crawfish Festival at Hyde's Cafe in Old Town Spring

The final day of Old Town Spring's Crawfish Festival.We will meet up in at least one spot on I-45 (to be announced) and caravan north to FM2920 then west 1/4 mile to Old Town Spring.(If anyone wants to meet up at earlier locations let me know and I'll post it.)We will have lunch at Hyde's Cafe. After lunch we'll make a circuit through Old Town. Many of our neighbors are living at or below the poverty line, while rising food and gas prices are forcing them to choose between things like feeding their children or paying rent. And thousands of individuals and families are finding themselves in need.Giving to the ABC-13 Share Your Holidays Food Drive illustrates how caring people make a difference by working together to help neighbors. Houston Smart Car Club - Wurstfest at Wurstfest Grounds in Landa Park

Ten day salute to sausage ... a unique celebration rich in German culture and full ot Texas fun. Since 1961, families have come from near and far to sample tasty sausage, strudel, pretzels, potato pancakes and other German/Texas treats served up by fun-loving folks. Others come to polka and waltz to good ol' oompah music performed by more than 40 different groups. More come to visit with friendly Texans dressed in lederhosen and dirndls as a tribute to the community's reich German heritage. Everyone comes to have fun at Wurstfest!

So the Houston Club decided they wanted to try an "Invade a small town day" and I decided on a town that also had a festival as well to add to the things we could do. Our first out of town trip had 4 smarties show up with a total of 9 people.

We met at Sam'd deli diner out on Pin Oak Rd and I-10 to caravan to Halletsville, TX. Started at 6:00 am to meet up at 7:00 and headed out around 7:30 ish.…

Well, I may be entering middle age faster than previously thought, I forgot to post a blog about the August Meet & Greet for our club. Thanks for the reminder Gus. OK so we thought we would try some form of activity included with our beer and food to prevent us from becoming the most obese club at Smart USA Insider, so I chose bowling. It is relatively physical, inside from the heat (very important in Texas), and they serve beer!

Space City Smarts July Event - St. Arnold's Brewery

So the event turn out to be a small one for a whole host of reasons but still it was fun. We met up at the brewery around 11:00am but for me it was more like 11:30 due to the I-10 road construction. 3 smarties showed up and unbeknownst to us, a fourth and new member who was attending for the first time. Sorry about that, but we got your note and we will contact you by email.

Wow, I'm gonna be the first to blog about our trip? I can see many people have beaten me to the photos so I will limit mine to the ones I didn't see already posted.

Well our decision to go was a rather hasty one as we couldn't get the work schedules straight till the last minute. The Monday before the event we were finally able to get time off, so I sent off our registration and booked our hotel. Smart vs. Deer

It was a dark and foggy night. I just got in my car to go home from my sister-in-law's house. Two stop signs away, there was an open field where the high powered electrical lines ran through the neighborhood; the fog seemed thicker than pea soup on a frozen lake there. From that second stop sign, it couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 houses to reach the field but I managed to get the car up to a cool 30 mph.

Out of the corner of my eye, a flash of white fur comes dashing out…

My DDE was moving up a day, each day, for a bit. Now it has stopped on 2/5-5/6. I'm just sitting and waiting. I bet our Smarts will come in on the same boat.
