Is there anyone out there that might have an idea as to how long these little car's will last. Has anyone changed their brakes yet ? Or what about tires ? At what mileage was the work done ?

Looking for people with an 08 or early 09 car's. I am wondering how long do they last ? So any high milage folks out there, please reply. I have over 26,000 miles and so far no problems. Does anyone have over 50,000 or 75,000 on their car and if so what kind of problems did you have. Brakes, when do we change them ? Tune-ups ? Anything wi be helpful

Smart Appearance

Posted on September 20, 2009 at 8:23am 9 Comments

To keep the Smart looking good, besides washing it, has anyone applied wax or polish ? Looking at the products that I have for the other car, all say do not apply to plastic or vinyl . So I put the question to the smartest group I know. Who uses what ?

I barley ever drive my car. I used to put 12,000 miles a year on my cars, but with the bad economy I have learned how to save money which means less mall trips and other things. Mostly just drive it to work and here and there if I have to. The leaves are just starting, but I will make sure they are all colored for you. Have a good one :)

Wally- More like "retreaded" than "retired"! I spent 30 years in sales but haven't worked a real job for a couple of years. I trade in the market (iffy these days), do a lot of woodworking, and spent a good part of last year photographing historic car races with my younger son. We have self-published a half dozen books on these events and are still at it this year as well.

Wally- I did report it but I have no patience with self-promoting idiots who use a forum like this one to advertise their products-products totally unrelated to the smart. There are ads everywhere- we don't need them here.

Any Harley Davidson dealer (should) have an accessory that is used by motorcyclists that cost about $10 that is a small magnet that attaches to the car's (or motorcycle), frame with a tie-tie that helps the signal device recognize that there is a vehicle present.

Hey, sorry to take so long to reply. Long, long story that explains it all but just not worth the effort right now. I'm sure you have forgotten but the reason you contacted me is that in one post you mentioned a software program that can track ships at sea. Way back then I asked if you would tell me where/how to get a copy.

Which brings us to your April 24 comment asking for my email. It is < ric.haley@earthlink.net > and I would appreciate anything you can send or tell me. Thanks.

Hi Wally: Margaret and I are heading to Tennessee for a week of "floating" in the lake tomorrow afternoon. Your trip sounded wonderful... we can't wait to get back there ourselves. We were in Los Angeles for my oldest daughter's college graduation when the midwest meet was going on, but we may be able to make it on the 12th. I won't know until a little closer to the date (I may have to travel on business that afternoon). Hope all's well, Alan

Hi Wally,
I worked as A Motor Vehicle Inspector for the Ohio State Highway Patrol from 1978-1984. I have seen many weird vehicles. I think the Smart car ranks up their with one of the safest vehicle. One time I inspected a 1966 olds that had no glass no exhaust no floors and no engine mounts. This guy was sitting on a wooden crate that was on 2 2x4s and the engine had a log chain wrapped around it and to the frame. Everytime he gave it gas the entire engine twisted.
