We are not mechanically inclined so we thought we'd better go to a place that has done Blue Ox on Smarts. They did a great job as they had to practically disassemble the front of the Smart to do the installation properly. They have done a lot of Smart Cars for other RVers , so make sure to go to a place that is familiar with Smart Cars. Fran

I have it anchored out of the way with velcro under the dash so it doesn't interfere with normal driving. Fran

It is adjustable so that when you step on the brake in the motor home, the Patriot applies the same pressure to the Smart's brakes. There is also a controller that you put in the motor home that you can adjust the braking pressure from 0 to max 9. Since the Smart is light, we set it on 3 and it brakes very smoothly. There is also a manual override lever on the controller that you can use to brake the Smart. This is like a trailer brake and is useful in wet weather to keep the towed car in line. We also installed a break-away switch in the Smart, which makes us legal in all states and Canada. The folks at Blue Ox are very helpful if you want to get more tech info. call 888-425-5382. We love our Smart and now we can tow it anywhere. Take care, Fran
