Our Own Secret Society

Posted on September 5, 2008 at 3:30am 0 Comments

we were headed to Ikea in West Sac when my husband spotted it: "Look, another smart!" Sure enough, there it was. -- and it was a bumblebee like ours! we both waved and were surprised that the driver actually saw us and waved back. couldn't help but grin.

it's always cool to see another smart on the road. if other smart owners are like us, they're probably always keeping their eye open for another smart, especially since there are so few of us.

on the way to work yesterday...

i was stopped at a red light in the right lane when out of the corner of my eye i see a large brownish vehicle abruptly stop next to me. i slowly turn my head to see...a Hummer! the woman driving has her passenger side window down and asks me, "What's the mileage?" I tell her ,"33/41, though some are reporting better." then she asks, "how much does it cost?" i rattle off the answer before she grins and gives me a thumbs up, disappearing as quickly as she had come.

looks like the… Continue

introvert, extrovert

Posted on July 24, 2008 at 2:30pm 1 Comment

i'm an introvert. my car, with its bright yellow panels, contrasting black cell and snazzy red interior, is definitely an extrovert.

we're a strange pair, considering that i've always been known as being a shy, quiet person -- i often dress in neutral, muted colors. whenever i'm with my sister or equally stylish friend people always ask THEM if it's their car, so i think they're often surprised when they find out i own the car. i liken it to being a fashion designer often dressed in… Continue

the first three days

Posted on July 19, 2008 at 2:41pm 1 Comment

i knew it as soon as i saw it.

"there's mine!" i pointed excitedly. yes, there it was, 13 months later, like a prolonged and overdue delivery: sunny yellow with a contrasting band of black...and that red-orange dash! it stood out among the dashes of mostly black and some beige. even the general manager, who i recognized from the smart forum, commented on how sharp the combination was. "this is the first like this i've seen," he said. "you know what would have looked even sharper?"… Continue

united at last!

Posted on July 16, 2008 at 2:30pm 0 Comments

exactly thirteen months from reservation to ownership!

had a good experience with the San Jose smart center, considering how busy they were. it was a quick and painless process. my thanks to the staff there!

i was a bit nervous driving home, wondering if i'd run into the oft-mentioned problems: wind gusts, grooved pavement, sluggish transmission (especially on hills and from stops), etc. i did encounter these things but they… Continue

Any of the liquid products that dissolve calcium buildup. You DO NOT want get any of the SCUM remover stuff tht has ANY kind of abrasive in it. Be carefull because even toothpaste can be abrasive. Just get something like CLR and dilute it.

Will post a picture of the Dane in the back of the car in the next few days. Cas is a big guy. When he stretches out he is 7 feet long and weighs 160 lbs. But, what is funnier is when the othe Great Dane gets in the back also. It is a sight!!! Not much room left over.

Thanks for the comment!! I don't know about being intelligent and helpful. Usually I just feel like I'm being a smart@$$ or pointing out the obvious.

:) all sounds good. Who'd ever think there would be a car that would be fun just to make a U turn in? I am hopeful that the right orphan comes up before too long. I'm pretty well set on what I want- blue/black Cab. but turns out it's the most popular combo here in DC (sooo fashion conservative...) so I'm hopeful. Thanks for the note.

Well it transcends ages too. I love mine. My 21 year old son just drove mine for 8 days and LOVED it. My daughter wants one and she wants to wrap it in lime green with purple paw prints like some lady has already done.
