"I haven't had that problem but you could try disconnecting one of the battery wires, count to thirty and reconnect the wire. Maybe a reboot is what the computer needs? "

fuel gage

my fuel gage no longer shows the fuel properly.  at best it will show half full. Also my warning light comes on when I start the car sometimes. for that, I just re-start and it goes away. Has anyone had these problems and what will it cost to repair?See More

disconnect the battery while towing

I have heard many opinions on putting a battery disconnect while towing.  I have been towing my smart behind my motorhome sinse 2008 and have never had a problem.  can somebody tell me why this procedure is recommended. I hear lots of opinions but no facts.

"do not turn off the engine. but do put the trans in neutral. By turning off the engine you lose power steering and power brakes, needed to control your Smart. Some of the Toyota drivers should have known this. Basic driving 101."

Jim, is the name S +!@#$ for real or did susai censor the name. I have seen some words censored like Bill Hitch+!@#$, but, just now I tested this and it looks like susai has removed the block. So if the name was censored you could try to re post it. I found a way around it earlier by putting a a space between the letters.

Jim,
Double congrats on the delivery of "Scooter". Great name for a smart. From what I read on the blogs the waiting period appears to be shrinking slightly. My DDE has gone from Oct-Dec 2009 to Sep-Oct 2009 to May-Jul 2009. I hope it keeps moving in the right direction. Many of the folks in the "Still Waiting Group" who reservaed after I did have already received their confirmation. I keep hoping and checking my e-mail daily to see if it is there. Alas, to date-nothing. But I will keep hoping. Good luck as you and "Scooter" get better acquainted.

Jim, Well I hope that boat is either empty or heading up to Seatle. SmartUSA said my car will debark in Long Beach.
I sure hope it didn't oversleep and miss the port :)
It'll most likely get trucked or trained up to the Bay area.
Hope you enjoy your new smart as much as I plan to!

Great, glad you will soon be getting your Smart. Please make sure you have them lube the shifter & that the problem with the faulty injector sensor has been checked / replaced. This has been a problem with car for sometime. The dealers know about these problems and should take care of them, pryer to delivery. Just make sure they do it !!!!

Jim, Just got an email from you stating your smart is at the port of Long Beach.
Just curious because that's where mine is supposed to come in. How did you find out?
Where are you located?, South CA, North CA?
I got my 30 day notice on Sept 16th and I'm in the SF Bay area. My smart should be on this boat.....
Thx for any oinfo you can provide.

Congratulations Jim on your new arrival. We chose the silver with a black tridion. I wish that we were as close as you are to receiving our "baby". But, I guess we will continue to wait. I love your idea of the wind up key. I thoink that would be a real attention getter. Again, congrats on your new smart.

Hi Jim,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. I appreciated your info on the Blue-ox. As I already have a Roadmaster Tow Bar I checked with them and find that they have a mounting bracket kit for the Smart. It is kit # 52285-1. I don't know what it will be price wise but I assume it will be competitive with Blue-Ox. I dowloaded the installation instructions from both Blue-Ox and Roadmaster. They are very similar.

Can't help you on how the Smart tows but I am anxiously waiting for my Smart for the same reasons. I currently tow a 2003 Buick Century Custom (3600 lbs). I am sure that my motorhome will rejoice right along with me when my Smart arrives.
