Jeff arranged lunch in Ames at Cazador's, so I got a chance to meet some other smarties. Three of us from Ames (Jeff, Larry and myself) and two from the Cedar Rapids area (Steve and Penny, and Sean). We had a plentiful lunch, then got a group picture in the parking lot with the five cars.

Here's a little something I did to my Smartcar. At night I was having an issue on finding some things I placed into the trunk area. So I read about this idea someone else had and to my amazement I found the perfect lights that match my interior. They are made by Sylvania lighting and called DOT-IT LIGHTS. They come in 7 different colors and there website is http://www.sylvaniaonlinestore.com/. Above are the… Continue

Hi anyone out there who has had their Smart for a while who doesn't have shelter for it? Wondered if you had any issues with the finish due to weather events. We live in Kansas so the weather changes daily, sometimes hourly, with wild swings in temperature, rain, wind, sun, hail, ice, snow, you name it.
We probably won't have any place to put our Smart inside when we do get it, probably April, will be soft top cabriolet. We live just off the highway, but do have gravel roads for a… Continue

No Orphan for me, no way. I waited, waited and waited a whole lot more but my car has arrived. During this time I got a whole lot of thinking in to see if I really wanted, needed this car. OK, I don't need this car (I almost don't need anything, being a Buddhist) , but my 97 CR-V is 11 years old and getting up there in mileage and only gets about 25 mpg.
The reason for this car for me is:
2) I don't need anything bigger (mostly my wife and I).
3) My wife and I… Continue

SmartieParts.com has a set of Front Mud Flaps for the Smart Car. Does anyone know of a supplier who carries Rear Mud Flaps specially made for the Smart?

I drove up to Spencer to visit relatives. The roads were snowpacked for the first twenty miles, but were fine north of Hwy 20. I thought I'd be able to get gas along the way, but didn't have much luck finding any premium in rural Iowa. So I begrudgingly put a few gallons of 89 octane until I could find some premium.
The trip was uneventful. My 86 year old mother enjoyed riding it in, as did my sisters. Ended the day with about 580 miles on the beast.

We got up at 6am, CST knowing we would eat breakfast later on. We at a little something, fed the cat and bunny, got dressed and left by 6:40. We took a little footage of the way down, but not much. Had only one 63min tape. We drove about 100 miles or so south of Lewisville, TX to a small town called West, TX to a place my boss recommended called The Czech Stop! Its a Czech Bakery/truck stop (this place will be important later) where you can buy local Kolatchies and stuff like that, made fresh… Continue

Greetings. If you live in Atlanta and you own a Smart Car, I just started a Facebook group ("Atlanta Smart Car Group"). Figured it could be useful to have something at a local level, and possibly fun, too (I'm imagining happy hour get-togethers, which would undoubtedly turn heads in tavern parking lots when the Smart Car cavalry arrives). So, if you're interested, sign up--and spare me the embarrassment of being the only member of my group! :-))

I had my srs indicator lamp switch on today. This happened to anyone else? I looked in the book and it said, "there is a malfunction in the supplemental restraint system of the•Air bags•Emergency Tensioning Devices." Anyone else have this turn on? Anything that I can try first?

I am wandering haw much you guys are paying for insurance? I am charge with $480 for 6 months and I believe it is a ripoff. At the beginning the insurance agent has no clue which category to put my Smart on, and I believe the insurance charged me that much.
I forget to mentioned I am in California and many of the Insurance Co. some of you mention I never heard about. But I got the idea. I am paying to much. My Smart has lo jack, and I have discount for multi cars also. I will mention the… Continue

Went to La Vista to pick up my red/black passion coupe Jan 22, 2009 after waiting 602 days (20 months) since I reserved it in May 2007.
It was a warm calm day, so my first drive amongst 18-wheelers was uneventful. After driving on I-80 for a while, I got on the back roads and came up through Lake Panorama and eventually Hwy 30.

Just in case anyone is interested, maybe tired of waiting for your car to come in. The dealer is in NYC, I am not sure but I am guessing they will make arrangements with buyers from out of area.
smart center manhattan has a bunch of smarts ready to be driven off.
They are a great bunch of people. I worked with Derek and Elaine.
I have had nothing but a good experience with them, sales people are really nice and their service department is good too.

"The iQ, only 117 inches long overall—there [sic] wheelbases of some cars are longer—is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 67 horsepower. That compares to the Smart’s 106-inch length and 71 hp. Performance gives the Smart the edge, thanks to its smaller size as well as its six percent greater horsepower, but Toyota found… Continue

I just picked up my Smart Orphan yesterday and the dealer said they don't have the jacks for the MP3 hookup in the glove box. Does anyone know where I can purchase this jack/cord? Also, can I plug an IPhone into this jack and use the iPod on the iPhone through this connection? And lastly, if that is possible, will my phone ring through the audio speakers on the car?
Ok, I lied, another question; where can you buy aftermarket goodies for the Smart online. It would be nice to get… Continue

We are recovering from a six inch snow fall with temperatures just warm enough following to melt snow on roads and create black ice. This morning, I drove my new Smart with foglamps for the first time since the snow. It was still mostly dark when I left for work, and I used my foglamps to help illuminate the road. Very, very helpful in seeing the ice.
I highly recommend the foglamps, especially if you have bad roads to travel in "iffy" conditions and poor light.

I'm moving. Across country. And I've rented a big truck that can tow a car hauler (the one you drive the car onto). My thinking is that it is big enough to pull both of my Smarts onto it.
Has anyone had any experience with the U-Haul car hauler and a Smart?
