We just downsized and bought a Winnebago Via class A motor home. It is 26 feet long and will tow our Smart Car with no problems. We are looking for a dealer that has installed the base plate (either Blue-Ox or Roadmaster as they both have baseplates for Smart) on a Smart Car before. We are in Tucson , Arizona and it seems no one here has done a base plate on a Smart before. Also what are the steps to take in getting Smart ready to tow? Shift into neutral and disconnect the battery? Is that all?… Continue

Is anyone else having these problems?
Tires - I recently had to replace my front tires at 20,000 miles due to cupping and excess wear on the inside. I had a four wheel alignnment performed ($99.95!?) which showed the front end only slightly out on one side, not nearly enough to have caused the wear. Could this be a design or specification problem?
Roof - The plastic roof panel has developed a "checking" problem all over. These are little cracks throughout the panel that… Continue

Make sure you take a look at this VERY UNIQUE
stereo installation Matt Boesch
did for me. The custom amplifier enclosure sits in the trunk while the speaker wire, head unit component plugs, remote subwoofer volume control, power cable and ground cable plug into the outside of the enclosure so it can be unplugged and removed for easy access to the engine compartment. All the connections… Continue

I pull into a gas station, tell the man to fill it up, he says "can you unlock the gas door for me"? I reply "it's not locked" then he says "well then it's stuck" I get out to see what the problem is, and it opens with ease. Next fill up same thing happens, "can you unlock your gas door"? "IT DONT LOCK!!" I get out of the car, and again it opens with ease.
Am I the only one who didn't know the gas door is locked as long as the car doors are locked? lol
When I opened my… Continue

I have come up with a few ideas for smart related T-shirts. Does anyone know the best way to get them from idea to T-shirt? One uses the smart logo so there may be copyright issues. Thoughts on who best to talk to about use of the logo?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Smart Madness offers a red "decal" to cover the dash, cup holder, steeringwheel center, and armrest. Has anybody purchased and installed these? If so, how satisfied with the product and the difficulty of instalation. Thanks. Tom

Ok... I've had Maxwell for over a year, and these past months had given me some insight as to why it's better to have a Smart (as opposed to other cars)
My top ten list (in no particular order):
10) Parking... Last week I pulled smoothly into a parallel space a Mini Cooper passed up.
9) Gas mileage...… Continue

The more I drive our cabriolet Smart (purchased Oct 09), the more I like it. Our Smart is our only car. We are empty nesters, and the Smart's size is just right for my wife and I. When our son visits, or relatives visit, we rent a sedan for a few days. If we need to haul something, say garden supplies, we rent a pickup truck for the day. But let me tell you, the Smart is plenty big for the two of us, and it drives nicely, and the fuel economy is great. And, with a cabriolet and living in East… Continue

Does or has anybody else have a problem with the gear shifter not shifting till you play with it?
In park, then I shift to drive (but it acts as if it's in nutral) then I go back to park and try it again. 1 or 2 times of doing that and it's works.
If yes and you know what the problem is, please fill me in.

Saturday we cracked/bent our rim. (We only have 9400mi on our Smart) My initial thought was... whew we bought the entended tire/rim coverage from the dealer... this should be covered. Well the inspector say's something else. Since there was no damage to our tire, they will not cover the rim??? Huh? So annoyed that the insurance is a rip-off!!! What am I paying for then?

It happened. My nightmare. My Smart car, Maxwell, was hit.
On my way home from work on Wednesday, January 13th, I was in a line of cars waiting for a red light (I was 5th or 6th in line) when I looked into my rearview mirror and saw a car coming up behind me. I could see the top of the driver's head, which told me he was texting!
I watched in horror and realized he wasn't looking up to check the road. 'Crap,'
I thought. 'He's not going to stop.'… Continue

I traded my 2008 Smart yesterday for a Jeep Patriot. I was just having to many issues with it, plus with the weather in Maine, just was not practical. The dealership was only going to give me $6500 for it, I have never had a car depreciate that much in value. (The Smart was clean in and out)...They finally gave me $8500 for it (I owed $12,300) so the rest was absorbed thru a Jeep Rebate, plus the company I work for has a preferred pricing plan with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, so that made the… Continue
