February 2009 Blog Posts (46)

Hello everybody. Today, I saw a multitude of Smart cars and am looking for their owners. First off, They were all seen on route 34 in Derby and Orange Connecticut. I saw an all black smart car with red dots on either side, a white and black smart car, a white and solver smart car, and a blue and black Smart car. The owners were older gentlemen and I would like to talk to them to discuss a Smart car meeting/rally in the area that we live in. If you have any information, please write in this blog… Continue

Got an orphan - Rally Red -dealership great

On Feb. 10th picked up an 2009 orphan at the Jackson, MS dealership. This smart was like the one I had originally ordered,red/w/silver, it has the comfort package. The dealership was great to work with, Mike B. took a great deal of time answering questions and showing off the smart. They have three more orphans if anyone in the area is wanting a car now.

The ride back to Lousiana was a little rough, had winds, and rain, the smart felt like it was… Continue

Wow, it looks awesome! I also love the chrome package you added. I am expecting the delivery of my black Brabus this coming April and have also ordered the chrome package. Now I am thinking of doing the re-badging after seeing yours. Great idea!
I will post pictures of it here after I get it.

Smart Snow in Upstate NY (February 2009)

Yeah, I know that this was intended to be a Williamsburg, VA car, but we needed a vehicle, and the right orphan was available in Albany, NY.

For the past week, we have been driving the Smart ForTwo around the Syracuse, NY area, where we currently live. We are situated about 1500 feet above sea level. To visit us, is literally like driving straight up a hill.

Naturally, like many of the snow bound, readers want to know how the Smart operates in snow. We had a mild test this… Continue

Electrical Problems

Has anyone been having electrical problems with their Smart Passion. It seems that every other time I start the Smart the radio comes on instantly and my daytime running light don't work. All other lights work fine. Tonight I noticed that when I got out of the Smart that the time delay lights were not working either. Other than these few problems, after 850 miles it is a great vehicle to drive and watch others looking at you with a thumbs up!

Smart Performance is Great

Took a trip from Las Vegas/Henderson to LA area and then down to San Diego. Hit alot of rain, gusty wind and slick freeways. Performance was great with speed on the freeways between 65 and 75 with no problems. Mileage to LA was only 37mpg but hit heavy head wind and lots of rain. Traveling around the LA area and down to San Diego got 45mpg, and the ride from San Diego back to Las Vegas got 41 mpg. The car performed better then I expected as this was our first big trip. Lots of stares as the car… Continue

Anyone out there problems with the soft Top on the Cabriolet??

I just noticed my Soft Top is getting a litle bump on the outside by the driver's side.
And I noticed too, that the Black Fabric covers the passenger side more than the Drivers side...

Windshield Replacement

The Lost Skate took a stone hit in San Diego last Monday in a violent rainstorm... I learned a few things about Smart glass and happiness is not having the rain sensor with regard to price, holy-cow! Safelite online was as easy as it gets and the PPG glass they installed was tip-top in quality. I do have a caution to share if you've not had the pleasure of replacing the windshield: Be sure the technician insulates the pivot screw on his right angle knife as it will scratch the window post. I've… Continue

Anyone else finding excuses to go for a drive?

I’ve had my ’09 for about a month and a half now and I still find myself thinking of excuses to go for a drive, taking the long way home, and regret when I finally pull onto the last stretch home. I've never experienced this with any other car that I've owned and find it odd. For those still waiting for delivery be prepared.

My expensive neglected SUV has started taking anti-depressants and is threatening to run away, I keep the gas low in the tank so it can’t go far.

Just thought it would be interesting to see how our waiting experience compares to others, and it's something to do while we wait. And it may help others be encouraged as they see how the pieces fit together. So here goes, I've been keeping a running log on my page everytime I get a bit more information.

Like Becky

Like Becky we are in North Carolina too. This past weekend started with snow still on the ground in shaded places but being February in NC things can change very fast. Left home Saturday in the early morning going to Lake Norman for a Polar Bear fund raiser then leaving with the top down. Sunday morning got up and headed for Ocean Drive beach for a day trip. Drove round trip about 450 miles in some of the best weather you could want. Love the car and love North Carolina.

Top Down Weather -- Hooray

Last Tuesday night it snowed in Raleigh, NC. On Wednesday and Thursday, it didn't get out of the 30's and the nighttime lows were in the teens. Finally on Friday it warmed up into the low 50's. Yesterday (Saturday) it was in the upper 60's. I put the top back on my rally red/silver cabrio to go to the grocery store. Didn't bother to take the roof rails off.

Today, it got into the lower 70's. My husband and I took the rails off and just spent 2 hours riding around town. Wow, I'm ready… Continue

Hip Hip Hooray!! No longer waiting

Was able to get an orphan cabrio just like I had configured (it's black w/ comfort package) so when my cabrio comes in, it will be an orphan, but hopefully, only for a short while. I'm going to change out the wheel rims and perhaps have some wrapping done (in read -- instead of painting). May change out the seats to upgrade the leather as well as comfort factor.

I love my car to pieces -- After 9-1/2 years of waiting for it to come to the U.S., I can't believe I really have it! It… Continue
