Celebrate with Smartie!

Smartie here again!

Wow! Has it been a crazy few weeks! The summer’s been heating up and so has my schedule, which is totally awesome. Every weekend it seems there’s something going on in Door County, Wisconsin – different places to go, new people to see... just my style. And everywhere I go, I’ve made some great friends who bought some raffle tickets and have helped support Northern Door Children’s Center and early childhood care and education.

This weekend, the Center is… Continue

10th Annual Cruisin' Downriver - MI

On Saturday evening, June 27, 2009 my wife and I headed to the 10th Annual Cruisin' Downriver and WHAT an experience... and will not be going back again!

The plan was to cruise up and down Fort Street a few times and dinner at a local restaurant. Well… some of it did happen. My wife and I had dinner at the Ram's Horn Restaurant, the food and service was good. But we only cruised Fort Street only one-and-a-half times. Why? I was not prepared for the crude comments from the… Continue

20K mile service

I took delivery of my Smart Cabriolet in Bloomfield Hills, MI at Roger Penske's Flagship SmartforTwo dealership, where I also had the 10K service performed. The Bloomfield Hills dealership staff was very knowledgeable, efficient, communicative, and they had a large variety of dealer installed options available, as well as apparel and accessories. They are/were a pleasure to do business with!

I recently had the 20k service performed at the Smart Center (Mercedes Dealer) in West Palm… Continue

Had my 10K service combined with the 2.0 upgrade, Holy Cow, what a difference! 49mpg on the 160 mile drive home this afternoon, and I'm stunned over the way the transmission paddle shifts now... The Lost Skate is a year old now, no regrets that's for sure!

Dealer service

After seeing a number of posts about really bad dealer service and attitude, I think I need to add my recent experience:

Last Sunday (Fathers' Day) we discovered the right side marker light (just in front of the door) was dangling by its power cord. The plastic clip holding it in had broken, and it kept falling out if its proper location. I rigged a temporary fix with duct tape, then discovered the driver's door wouldn't latch...until I really slammed it.

Monday morning I… Continue

U-Turns, anyone?

I just can't help it, I pull a U-Turn when I leave my office everyday...Does anyone else do this, and has anyone gotten a ticket for it? It's just too small for a 3Point turn, so my turn has a curve.

I decided to drive one tank as light-footed as possible, just to see how many mpg I could get. Unfortunately, it got really hot and I had to turn the a/c on, and of course that really drains the power in town. So, here I was, sloooooowly pulling away very snail-like and sluggishly coming up to cruising speed.

Then this pickup truck pulls up next to us, and I notice they are not going away. After they got our attention, they revved their engine, making little mocking lunges ahead of… Continue

Bike Rack Projects - Single and Tandem

I have finished my bike rack projects for my smart car. After my 1st prototype to design one rack to hold either a tandem or a triathlon bike. I decided to make 2 bikes racks, one for the triathlon bike and another for the tandem bike.

Now I am going one step further, I figured out a way to carry two bikes on the back by only adding a couple of pieces.

Over the next week I'll will be uploading video showing if there is any movement (flexing) of the bikes when driving. And… Continue

Change your Smartitude!

Can you feel the buzz in the air? And no, I am not talking about my brother, Bee Smart. Summer is FINALLY here! The weather is warming up and I’m driving around with my top down and windows open! This is the perfect weather to think about buying a raffle ticket to win the perfect summer car – that’s me, the 2009 Smart ForTwo Passion Cabriolet, and $5,000 for some sweet summer spending cash. It also doubles as your chance to support the Northern Door Children’s Center and early childhood care… Continue

opening the hood

Belive it or not I don't know how to do this!! Can anyone give me a quick lesson? I want to refill the washer fluid.

THX, Wanda

..am reading the responses tonight 6/16. Thank you for the directions! I did find a pdf file with tech specs showing a picture of the hood open but the directions below are much clearer. I am fairly close to the dealer/service so I do think I will make an appt to have them show me how to do this. Basically the car pickup was handing me the keys. I… Continue

The Happiest Car On The Road

The other day it finally dawned on me. This is one of the happiest car on the road. Everyone looks. Everyone notices. I have taken to wildly waving when I see people looking. Most of the time they either smile or wave back. It really is a lot of fun making people smile. I guess I'll keep doing it :)

Help find a solution for me!

Help! Does anyone know how to solve the following problem with my smart car? I have put new wheels and tires on the car, the problem is that the front wheels are 17" and with the tire dimension it is an overall width of 20", the back wheels and tires are 18" and overall 22", the rotation pf the tires when driven is off due to the difference in size, which is causing the computer in the car to go into "limp" mode. Does anyone know what it would take to synchronize the tires or correct the… Continue

Do you know your smarts's birthday?

I was wondering what day my smart was built. The door jam sports only the month and year. I stopped buy my smart dealer and asked the service rep if he could help. He jumped up, walked to a computer, then returned with a smile. He had the date. My car was built. February 8, 2008. He also found the date it arrived on U.S. soil. March 14, 2008. So if you want to give your smart a birthday party just check with you dealer.

Midwest Smart Car Rally

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending the Midwest Smart Car Rally at the Wisconsin Dell's this past weekend. Now first of all I would like to thank Jeff Edmondson and his team for the wonderful job that they did. We had never been to a car rally so we didn't know what to expect. And at our age I didn't think I would ever go to any rally. ( I was the one with the black Grumpy cap on) The whole weekend was definitely more than we ever expected. All the great new people we met and how well… Continue

A really horribly funny story

Hey everybody. Here is a funny and true story that you all need to hear because this might happen to you. I was driving my car to my friends one day and the ABS light went on. For all of you that do not know what that is, it is the airbag light aka guy in the seat with airbag in his face light. Anyhow, I thought that it was related to my accident, but I was wrong. About a week before I brought my car back to the shop, they had to replace the passenger seatbelt mechanism because it was not fully… Continue

Trun lights in the doors are Popping off

Is anybody else having this problem??? The driver side turn light popped out, the little plastic latches are broken off. Wouldn't you know, the passenager side light has popped out and the plastic latches are broken off on that one too. I don't know what is breaking the plastic clips. Those lights do not look good flopping on the doors. Well a Smart person does not drive around with the lights beating on the doors; So 2 sided tape is used until new lights can be ordered.
