Well, it finally happened to me - I was rear-ended Jul 28. I ended up with whiplash, as the person hit me full force, probably going 50-60 on the highway.
My head was whipped forward, then slammed back into the seat. The impact was so strong that the when I slammed back, the seat back actually popped back a few notches. Everything in the cubby holes flew out. I had an instant headache.
Fortunately, i was held in place by the seatbelt and the airbag didn't deploy.
Gary, the smart… Continue

Does anyone know if the purchase of a Smart is considered one of the type of vehicles for the Federal Government Car Allowance Rebate System or the Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEU), which EPA considers a "Smartway Vehicle"? I was wondering if, because it gets such good gas mileage, it would fall under the category for a tax deduction. I know a lot of people who own their Smarts are getting a wide variety of differences on their mileage, but I personally have been ranging between 48 - 51 mpg.… Continue

I myself like telling people Mercedes makes it (cause it sounds classy, and I have seen Europian Smarts with the Mercedes logo on them). But I've heard Swatch (yes the watch people) make it, or do you just say "Smart" makes it?
WHAT DO YOU TELL PEOPLE?

At the 20,000 check-up at my dealership (Bloomfield Hills, MI) I was told to go to a tire place and have them turn my 2 front tires around and have them balanced due to normal inside wear of the tires. First tire place blew me off and said that was not the correct procedure and they were actually rude to me. I suggested that they call the dealership which they would not do so I smartly took my business elsewhere. Second tire place did not have the equipment to work on my car, but the guy was… Continue

I've had my Smart ForTwo since June 26th and love it. However, I'm having a problem with the Tow-Away Alarm and Interior Motion Sensor. Is anyone else having it go off anywhere from 10 minutes to 5 hours after they park and lock the car? It happens on a flat surface as well as an incline. I've left the windows cracked or totally closed and have even tried re-closing everything that has a latch before I lock it with the key. So, any thoughts or help anyone can give me would be greatly… Continue

Holy Halogen lights, we already have another weekend creeping up on us! Where do the miles go?
Well, last weekend was sure exciting at the Summer Cherry Harvest Fest and the Sevastopol Sesquicentennial, but this weekend is going to be even busier! Friday, I will be chilling at the Dairy Queen in Sturgeon Bay and Saturday I have quite the schedule of appearances. First, we will be in Carlsville for the parade, followed by grape stomping! The Door Peninsula Winery is holding a grape… Continue

I can not understand why a Smart is ONLY able to do 31mpg for street driving, which is what most people do and not highway driving. Considering its size, it should be doing at least 100mpg. Toyota, which seats 4 people does 33mpg and that is a bigger car. Why is that the Smart does so little mileage for such a small car? I think that as cars get better and better in the their mileage, Smart is going to be left in the dust with its poor mileage. Smart needs to up its mileage now and not wait for… Continue

I wish that Smart would offer more and better color options. The current selections are sorely lacking in variety and are quite boring. In Paris I saw a Smart that was cream on the outside and mango and cream coordinated colors on the interior with a mango top. It was simply gorgeous and I wished I could have brought it over here. Smart, are you listening?? We need better and more imaginative colors both for the interior and the exterior.

Does anyone else find it hard to switch lanes on the right hand sidebecause of the passenger seat?? Each time I look at the review mirror all I see is the seat which is blocking my view. I mean I can always drive with the seat waaaay down and most likely I'll buy one of those huge blind spot mirrors to help me. But I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks for your input peeps :

In this blog I want people to respond with what year is your Smartcar and how many miles do you have on it.
My Smart is only a month old, but I was wondering what is the most mileage people are seeing.

Holy engine exhaust! Things sure have been non-stop all summer! It’s been a busy last few weeks and it doesn’t look like things are going to wind down anytime soon!
Since weekends are always the highlight in Door County, this weekend is certainly no exception! Friday night I’ll be at the Door County Ice Cream Factory catching up with the dinner crowd and slurping some soft serve. Saturday, I’ll be super busy at the Summer Cherry Harvest Fest at Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Market and… Continue

I recently took Lucille Ladybug on an out of town trip and realized that I could use something to collect all the small "stuff" I needed to take. I was in Target yesterday and found the perfect container. I have black interior and wanted something with a cover. I found a black fabric ottoman 15x15. It fits the space just perfect and looks good too. They have different colors, if interested.

I have changed the color of my Smart Car and now have a set of metalic red panels in my house.
If anyone is interested in purchasing these panels (all in very very good condition) please contact me at Winterswan@aol.com. I live in northern California and would prefer the purchaser to pick the panels up. Will even throw in a great picnic lunch!

My SMART car was purchased to be driven for fun. It is a fully loaded Cabriolet. I have had several problems with the battery. It had to be replaced at 900 miles and it won't start again at 1100 miles. I admit I drive it few miles weekly, but have never had a problem with other cars like I do with this. I have been told the original battery is very underpowered. I guess I need to get it towed in again. Once fixed it will be for sale.

My wife and I are negotiating to buy 1/2 of a 12' by 24' portable garage. The sales agent thought we were joking, I assured them we were dead serious. She understood when my wife Sue explained we drove a Smartie. We have 3 vehicles and an existing 2 car garage so it makes sense to buy 1/2 of a garage if they'll build it for us. It has a steel garage door and a steel side door and a window. If they won't sell us 1/2 , anyone interested in buying the other half?

Haven't been on here in ages. How is everyone? Still in love with your smarts? I see it's all the same complaints or questions on here. I just love Purple Passion and still field questions about her when ever we are out.
Hope everyone is having a great summer.

For those of you who were not able to make it to this year's Midwest smart Car Rally, held at the Wisconsin Dells, I have posted many pictures here
For the owners of the 102 smart cars that WERE able to attend, I'm sure you'll join me in thanking all those who made it possible. Jeff Edmondson, in paricular, came up with the idea...but I know he had some very capable people… Continue

I seem to have a lot of questions lately! Thanks to all who responded about my rolling grocery problem. This is something else entirely!
Yesterday I was asked by a research group to participate in a 2 part smart car owner survey. Part one is an online survey, and part two is an in-home "interview". Part 2 would take about 2 hours, and be videotaped. Their perception of my "lifestyle" and "attitude" would be relevant to the survey. I'm not a bit crazy about the videotaping, and told… Continue

Oh man! What a crazy weekend! There was so much to do I think my wheels are still spinning! First, we had a bake sale at Baylake Bank on Friday, and then I went to Mueller’s in Egg Harbor to catch the Friday fireworks crowd. Saturday, I hung out at Baileys Harbor all day with my NDCC friends. We sold cotton candy, popcorn, freeze pops, soda and water. The Cat in the Hat even made an appearance and helped us out by selling cotton candy! I got a picture with him, too! Door County sure knows how… Continue
