I like the story that says that "smart" is an abbreviation for swatch-mercedes art car. I much prefer to think of my car as an "art" car than a "smart" car. I am sold on its craftiness of being a perfect fit for what I need in transportation. The size, the feel, the drive,... it is all just right just as it is: a work of art.
I like the way it says it is my choice in transporation, capturing my independence, and liberty from the obligations that come from all of the other cars to be… Continue

Just got my first notification that my Smart will be here between April and July of 2009, with an order date of February 2008. Oh well... Less than a year to go now I guess...

My husband and I just returned from 1500 mile roadtrip in my smart car. We went to GA, SC, NC, TN, KY , ALA and Northern FL. The car handled fabulously in the mountains and on the dirt road up to our cousins mountainside property.
Somewhere along the way I lost ocunt of the number of people taking photos of the car as we drove along, we gave out the last brochures we got from the dealer and got so mnay positive comments it was wonderful
Luggage was not an issue, we got 2… Continue

My car, a red Passion coupe, came with black chrome wheels that I didn't order. They look terrific but I would have preffered the optional 9 spoke alloy wheels. If anyone is interested in trading I'm open for a swap or purchase. I live in Bishop, CA, but willing to travel to Southern Calif. or Reno, etc. Let me hear from you. Thanks. I just realized I ordered manual steering (didn't see that power was an option). Please let me know your experience with manual steering. Is it very difficult? I expect my Smart in the next 90 days.

Well, I'm on the waiting list and my delivery date is scheduled for over a year from now. My husband and I went to see his mother yesterday, out of town, and there happened to be a Smart dealership near her house. So, on the way, we stopped to see if they had any orphans. The salesman explained to me that they are unable to sell cars to people who live outside of their sales area. There was an exception, though. They could sell used orphans, and they happened to have one on the lot! A man had… Continue

How can a Fuel Additive that actually works to deliver a minimum 240% (ROI), increases fuel economy and reduces emissions 77% actually be unheard of ???
The original ester based formulation was developed for the US military in 1944 by Morton Z. Fainman to allow Allied forces to effectively burn methanol when gasoline and diesel supplies were beginning to run low. The need for a conditioner was to provide additional lubricity to the new fuel because it was dryer and caused the engines… Continue

We finally had a garage sale, made over $250, and made room for the smart in the garage. It sure doesn't need much room though.
Of course we still have a packed garage 'cause we are the dumping ground for all family members but it is so nice to park out of the heat.
It was kinda funny when the cops stopped by our garage sale. I had parked the smart in the grass, out of the way, and off the street where garage sale shoppers could hit it. The police… Continue

... and he sounds pretty mean :-). He is not as quiet as he used to be, but at about 70 miles an hour the engine now matches the tire noise (he also is supposed to have 6 more hp and 14 more Nm torque - hard to tell whether that's true) so long highway trips should be insignificantly noisier than before and in town he commands a little more respect (without being annoyingly loud).
The new exhaust also is significantly lighter than the stock and the stainless steel is very pretty. Now… Continue

So: I took Lewis H up to Breckenridge (Colorado) from Denver (Colorado) two days ago (and back) and he did great. (Two people, stone samples and presentation boards included).
I am learning the paddle shifting quickly and I did downshift to 3rd on a couple of hills going about 60-65 mph. On most uphills 4th worked great (somewhere around 70 mph), but shifting early and often helps a lot. I was even running the AC for a good chunk of time on the way up.
Adding a few miles… Continue

This was the first trip Max has made towing the rack and roll trailer with the two kayaks and two bikes on board. Was very interested in how he would do as to mileage and pulling the extra weight. I have been averaging 43 mpg since his pick up in May. Today's trip was all interstate from Bangor, Maine to outside of Hartford, CT, a total of 356 miles. Speed was 65 to 70 and the mpg was around 32. I had the bikes covered as can be seen in the pictures. It was quite a wet day. Expect that may had… Continue

Well after much research and probably still more learning to go I washed and waxed my smart car.
First I started with the products. I decided to use Zaino products. Check out the bucket with grit guard. I never knew about a grit guard before.
I also used Dawn original, for the first time only, to be sure to remove all the old wax gunk.
Be sure to rinse the car BEFORE you start! This will loosen and wash away some… Continue

A couple of weeks ago I put my name on an "orphan" list in West Palm Beach, Florida. I have ordered a smart in Coral Gables Florida.
Yesterday I recieved a call from the West Palm dealer telling me that they may have a car for me. I was told that the car was purchased by someone who originally ordered it for an investment. Thinking the person who ordered it was no longer interested, I told the salesperson that I would be interested in the car.
The salesperson took my phone… Continue

I have a Smart car on order, anyone out there have any idea on how we can find companies that are willing to pay us for advertising. Not looking to make any real money, just thanking, we should be able to find a lot of companies willing to pay us something per month , to have there name on such a high profile car like ours running around. This sounds like a win, win, thing for us (car owners ) and for companies looking for low cost advertising. Show me say like $100.00 a month, and i would be glad… Continue

That was a pleasant experience at the dealership today. Wow. I would go so far as to say, I'd do it again, but car-buying is a scary deal.
I drove sunny1 home on I-40, and some a _ _ _ _ _ _ almost crashed into the driver's side. If I didn't know better, I'd say he was aiming for me. Oh well. I blasted him with my soprano horn.
Since I've driven a stick all my life, it is a huge change for me, and a little scary. Gee, I'll have to drive a lot more to get used to the new tranny!… Continue

Just wondering where they put the gas tank. I know where the battery is, and the engine... and where you put the gas in, but where does the 8.7 gallons get stored?
Thanks to anyone who knows.

I was at an AYSO meeting, parking was really tough...guess what, I found parking right in front of the entrance on street. It was a really tight spot in between 2 cars (normally I wouldn't even consider this a parking spot), I managed to fit my Smart into that spot. After the meeting was over, there was another group of parents waiting to park. As I pull out of the spot, I saw a Matrix eyeing my spot. After I left, the Matrix driver drove up parallel to the empty spot to see if his car will… Continue
