Hey Robin850, I have the platform on my Smartie. Works great. I put one of those big white fishing coolers on it to pack stuff in when I drove to Nationals from Denver. The coolers fit perfectly! Depending upon how much weight you add though you have to adjust breaking and accelerating distances. Haven't had problems going cross-country in the mid-west, but the weight does hamper speed in the mountains. Continue

For those wanting "extras" for their Smartie, contact SmartMaddness.com They have everything from the bumperstickers you wanted to Smartbrellas (I got one and it's great) to glare reducers (goes between rear-view mirror and sun-visors) cruise controls, anything you can imagine. I've unfortunately for my bank account, spent a small fortune with them and they are wonderful to work with. They have several hundred after market items for the Smart Cars. SmartMaddness is located in Southern… Continue

Hi, a little help please. I have seen a web site for fun accessories, like "pull to inflate", stickers etc.
I can't seem to find it now. Anybody have the address?
Thanks a bunch.
Also does anyone have the rear platform and or bike carrier? What do you think about these items?

I recently purchased a "smartbrella'. Basically, it's a car cover that just covers the top of the car. Since I don't park my cabrio in the garage, I was worried that my top might deteriorate faster than if it was protected. And, at work, we don't have a parking garage so my car is exposed to the Texas hot sun all day. The Smartbrella has really helped. It doesn't take long at all to put on and it really helps keep the interior of my car a lot cooler than just my sunscreen shade. I really like… Continue

I decided to take my smart car to Mississippi last week. It was going to be an almost 600 mile trip one way. My sweet Salma was only a week old at the time and I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I sure did look forward to it. The first challenge was figuring out what we were going to be able to bring for one week. So, after making sure that the two golf bags were in the car, the carryon luggage filled to the top with clothes and two laptops, the two camera bags and the cowboy… Continue

I has been a longtime since I have posted a blog for everyone to read. As I see everyone has alot of great things to say about the "SMART" Car.
I currently have over 80,000 miles on my "SMART" car and continue to go all the way to 6 figures.
During my experience with the "SMART" car, here has been my maintenance experience.
1) I had my oil pan replaced under warrenty

08/13/10: Some more pictures added. Two views of an armrest and two views of a new rearview mirror. Both items purchased from Geniusparts.com. The armrest is of excellent quality. The mirror is double articulated and FINALLY allows me to see the road when making a right turn or curve.

I have heard about replacing the front tires and wheels with the larger sized rear wheels. This is supposed to improve the ride dramatically. Has any one had any experience with this change? Did you find the rear wheels new or used?

Hi I recently had an inquiry about towing the Smart Car. We tow ours behind our Winnebago Via (26 ft motorhome) If you follow the instructions in the revised Smart Car manual, it is so easy. Make sure you go to a dealer that is familiar with Smart Cars for the installation. We have a Blue Ox towing system with the Patriot braking system. To be legal in all states and Canada, you DO have to have a breaking system. If you are ever in an accident, even if it was not your fault, you will be charged… Continue

Spots IN the windshield :-(
My "09" has spots..white...IN the windshield. I guess it is IN the lamination! Continue
The dealer never saw this before. So I took photos and gave them to the shop Foreman. He will deal with this. While at the Oxnard dealership, I went and looked the first four smart cars on the lot. The first four out of 15 smart cars have the same spots IN the windshield. I did not go past the first 4 cars as they were being…

The other day, I was on my normal route to work. There is a street that I use to cut over to a main thoroughfare that is not crowded at all, and kinda in a residential area. Well, I was going about 15 mph over the speed limit. I always do this. But this particular day, there just so happened to be a cop that had parked his car on a side street and was taking pictures (radaring) by standing to where he wasn't visible, and then if he got you he would jump in his car and pull you over. kinda… Continue

I was really excited when I saw that there were 34 members in the Jax club. I was even more excited when I saw that they did something monthly on Saturday. I became totally bummed when I saw the club hadn't done anything since last year. I would like to energize the club and get the smarties out for all to see. I am having a blast right now with mine. I was putting gas in it and this lady started a conversation with me about how small it was, so I told her to go sit in it. She was totally… Continue

My first non-altercation in my smart car.
It was early afternoon when I drove to the local supermarket. As I surveyed the parking lot, I noticed that a big SUV had parked in my tiny half-spot parking spot, over lapping into the next parking spot near the entrance to the store. When I mean half-spot parking spot, I mean: there is one parking spot that has a large cement block with a light pole taking up half of the spot. This big SUV had pulled into half of this half-spot and a quarter of… Continue

I have a 2009 smart and its only 20 months old. I have 22,000 miles on it. I read in the manual that the clutch is covered by warranty for only 1 year or 12,000 miles.
Right now I have a problem with my car not shifting to D
rive or R
everse in the morning. I had the same problem a year ago and the dealership replaced the clutch under… Continue
