We have had our Smart since July 2008. Currently have 26,000+ miles on it.
Our best mpg is 52. Our worst about 25. We quickly learned.
1) Name brand gas only. Nothing from Sam's
2) Run in automatic on the transmission.
3) Fill the tank when it gets down to half.
4) Only run Premium gas.
5) Best mpg comes staying between 60 - 75 miles per hour.
We have gone as fast as 95, run it down to so close to empty that we put in… Continue

My wife hit a small dead animal on the road last week. It ripped the low front fender and I am now waiting for the body and fender service to get the part and fix it. I think this will be an ongoing problem as well as slush and snow in the winter. Anyone else have this experience?

We purchased our smart car in Feb and after repeated tests we can only get 22mpg. We installed the optional exaust system but no change. Service says there is nothing they can do. We are currently writing SmartUSA. Has ony one had this problem? Please let us know.

Another low MPG... 29.5 @ 3364 miles. Wondering if my husband is driving with a lead foot? He say's he's not... but it does seem to be lower when he drives, although its still not that great when I drive it. He drove it more than I did this time.

To keep the Smart looking good, besides washing it, has anyone applied wax or polish ? Looking at the products that I have for the other car, all say do not apply to plastic or vinyl . So I put the question to the smartest group I know. Who uses what ?

my last fill up I got 33MPG (oh, and husband didn't drive it :-)... at least that's the city advertised MPG. new avg. is 31.8 w/ 3181 miles on it. Still waiting for that miracle change to occur @ 5000 mi. Still haven't gotten to take my Smart for a road trip.
Found out that my dad's Fit... the MPG calculator has been running higher than actually (calc. at pump) by about 10% (+3MPG), but its still beating my Smart :(
I really want to get a KIWI so I can monitor my real time… Continue

oK IM a little confused NOW! i have the daylamps and the headlight are always on right, i just found out today that not only the headlights are on but the taillights are on too. Now i know on my other car that has daylamps the taiilights are NOT ON! i thought that feature is just for the FRONT HEAD lights. Why are the tail lights on?
then if you switch the knob to "turn them on" the head lights go out in the parklight mode and they come back on in the headlight night driven mode. NOw the… Continue

I have both fenders done now--check out the new pictures! I'm not sure if the vinyl dots will stick to the gas cap cover, but I'll try a swirl design there anyways, and peel it off it it doesn't work. I've added my jewelry business URL to the back bumper--might as well advertise, eh? (And--sales of the jewelry benefits charity--hence the name, pearlsforgood.com.) You'll see more frogs across the back door of the car soon...I usually get the work done on weekends, especially now that it's… Continue

I love my Smart, but its not behaving! Our avg. MPG is only 32 with the last fill up at 30!!! Yikes. Don't know what is going on.
Also, driving it is really jerky for me, especially at low speeds (ie... stop n go) I've never driven a manual, and the Smart is definitely not an automatic

Lets get a Smart car club started here in Nashville. I'd like to meet all of you, and hear your stories of your own, individual Smart car experience. There are a few upgrades I'd like to add to my Smart. A club would be great for smart car owners.

Just got my car serviced. Was there for 1 1/2 hours, not too bad. Also got the 2.0 update which is a free battery and they update the computer software. It comes with a free battery, and the car shifts so much nicer, that took an extra hour. I only have 6,000 miles but my year was up about a week ago.
