The economy is a big pile of crap (so the news says...), I was demoted yesterday and I got my VIN today... And the month is yet to be over.
The Fed cut interest rates again, and there are some better rules on credit cards now. Good news for those who have them. The recession isnt really affecting our family negatively. So far so good, and my prayers to those of you that it is affecting.
I was taken off of salary yesterday due to my A.D.D. Seems that until I can focus more,… Continue

They finally admitted that I needed a larger battery. However, the car had to stay thru the weekend while it waited for the larger battery bracket to be installed.
So far, so good. I kept 'SllyDlly", which is what the license plate says, on my driveway overnight where the temperature was in the low to mid-thirties. The new battery held its charge.
The same dealership replaced the battery on my neighbor's daughter's car. So far, so good with their car too. So, now you're… Continue

Much to my dismay, the check engine light came on last night when I got in my SMART after work. The ONLY good news is that I have been trying to get my floor mats, so I guess I will pick them up while I am there. I am somewhat hopeful, since most of the posts for the check engine light (in the NUTS & BOLTS forum) are very similar to my experience - 1000 to 1500 miles on the car, take it to the dealer, 10-minute fix. Please, oh please, let it be that simple.
I am also happy to discover… Continue

IF you notice that your transmission is getting harder and harder to put into park and out of park, DO NOT WAIT! Contact your local Smart repair center. I just got off the phone with the CEO of the Smart Service Center in Fairfield and they say that this is a common problem. It became strange that it was harder and harder for me to get it into park and so on. I called the service center to see if my car was on the recall list for a problem just like this and they said it wasn't. When all Smart… Continue

Started out with a 2008(yellow) now I confirmed the order for a Red 200??) My window was Aug - OCt 2009, But now I'm not even on the list. It may be a 2010 by the time I see one. How long do they think we can wait to replace an old car with 175,000 miles, Maybe it time to look a Honda. I would thing about time I get my car it will not be Red and it will have anther $500.00 added. The French must be taking to many Wine and Cheese breaks at the factory...

I was cleaning out my "man-bag" and ran across my original reservation note. I checked the number of days that I've been waiting (Aug-10/2007 to today (12/14.2008)) and came up with 1 year, 4 months, 4 days! My last reservation digits are 1317. My current DDE is slowly marching onward 1 day at a time. Is it true that the more you check your DDE the more time is added? (only kidding, but it seems like it) My current 90 day window is 12/24/2008 to 3/24/2009). If this is not the longest wait then… Continue

Years ago, I wrote the following story for a little magazine... absolutely no connection to Smart, but I hope it gives a some readers a warm, happy moment this holiday season....
A Christmas Present for Floyd
A broad grin erupted on Tom Bennet’s normally serious face as he caught his reflection in the office window. A forty-seven year old corporate president dressed in an Armani suit sneaking scissors back into a desk drawer like a naughty schoolboy. Outside,… Continue

Just received and installed my Windup Key. It’s great and a lot of fun. It draws a lot of attention (like a smart needs more!) and gets many comments. I enjoy telling people, “It’s a gas/windup hybrid”( and then correcting that of course).
While it’s not cheap, it is very well made. It uses a bracket mounted behind the license plate and requires no significant modifications nor does it leave any permanent damage if removed. It comes with complete instructions and stainless steel… Continue

Sonic is 3 months old today, and had to go in for service. Yesterday when I parked, the parking brake wouldn't engage - just flopped limply. I called the dealer, and arranged to take it in today. I was told no one had ever heard of this particular thing happening. They ended up having to order a part, and I'll have to take it back in a week or so. Luckily they can fix it while I wait.
I also had the gear shift lubed while I had it there, as several here had advised doing as a… Continue

I got an email from my dealer in West Palm Beach, Florida. They were telling their customers that they have cars on the lot for sale. Why not consider one of those? You could have it shipped to your destination. Why wait if you don't have to?

Driving home this week my smart was showered by gravel on the Interstate, got a couple of gravel dings on the hood. Has anyone polished dings out? They aren't deep, just noticable on the black hood.
If anyone has suggestions or experience with dings, please tell me how you fixed them. On a painted metal surface I paint or buff out, just don't know on plastic.

I converted my current smart fortwo reservation to a 2009 Smart fortwo Brabus. My question is:
Does anybody know if we’re getting a Smart customized by Brabus in Bottrop, Germany or just a regular Smart with Brabus parts?
I asked the dealer in Tampa and nobody seems to know…

I reserved early in 2008, my first date was Dec 08- Jan 2009, this morning it was 2010! There's no dealership in Louisiana. I live in New Orleans and could go to Mississippi or Texas. How can i find out which dealership would get my order. Does the color really make a big difference in the date?
Any comments will be appreciated.

Finally! K&N has a replacement air filter the smart. You can't buy directly from K&N and their local dealers are usually slow and uninformed. I've always ordered my K&N products from AJUSA - best prices, free shipping. I just ordered a 33-2417 K&N for my smart from them. $49, free shipping. I recommend them.

We have a guy here at work that tops out at 6’3” (he also happens to be remarkably fit – he has a beard, and we call him ‘Young Abe Lincoln’…but I digress). He’s been driving his mother-in-law’s Mini-Cooper while his pickup is in the shop. On my first day back after the wedding, I offered him a test-drive of my SMART. While it did require some amateur origami to get him into the car, he was pretty comfortable once he was in. His only complaint was that while the seat moves backwards and… Continue

You know those speed monitoring signs sometimes randomly placed along the road that flash your current speed as you drive by? I have been trying to check my speedometer accuracy using one, only it doesn't seem to "see" my car. Has anyone else noticed the sign go blank when your smart approaches?
